Collin and Shauna sat across from each other, as they did every Friday on their lunch break. It was routine—expected, almost. Shauna picked the place; Collin picked up the food and met her at her salon suite.
They had been inseparable since seventh grade, when Shauna beat him up after school because Miles dared Collin to touch her butt. From that day on, they’d been in each other’s lives—when Shauna’s mom passed, when she had Zan, when Collin was locked up, and when Val left him. They had never left each other’s side.
“How’s Zan?” Collin asked.
“Oh my gosh,” Shauna sighed. “This boy is gonna make me pull out my hair.”
“Leave my partna alone,” Collin said. “He innocent.”
“Yeah right. Then you tell him to stop fucking peeing on the floor at school.”
“Peeing on the floor?” Collin laughed. Shauna shoved his shoulder.
“It is not funny! I don’t know how to deal with boys. I keep telling his dad to talk to him, but—” She stopped herself.
“Aye, I’ll talk to little man,” Collin said, trying to lighten the mood. “Can’t have him pissin’ on the walls. He gonna be peein’ on the kids next.”
“Don’t be making my son sound feral.”
“Well,” he shrugged, “he need to stop peein’ all over the gotdamn place.”
They laughed, and then a silence settled between them.
Shauna looked up from her food and caught Collin watching her. That flutter returned in her stomach, the one she’d been trying to ignore. Lately, he’d been coming by her place more often. Their phone calls stretched longer—sometimes all night. Whenever she brought Zan to see Nancy, Collin always seemed to be there.
“Collin?”
“You, uh… you got something on your face.”
“Oh.” Shauna wiped at her cheek but missed it.
“Let me.”
Collin reached over and wiped the sauce from the corner of her mouth with his thumb. He didn’t move his hand right away.
“There,” he murmured, bringing his thumb to his mouth and licking the sauce off.
“Thanks,” Shauna said quietly.
“You know I got you,” he replied. “Always.”
They went back to eating, but Shauna sat with the realization that he’d been here all along—showing up in ways no one else ever had.
When they were done, she walked him to the door. Just before he stepped out, she stopped him.
“Shauna?” he asked.
She took his hands and looked up at him. “So… is this a date, or are we pretending it’s not?”
Collin stepped closer. “I don’t know about you,” he said, “but I think I’m a little tired of pretending.”
“Hm,” Shauna murmured. “So what you gonna do about it?”
He lifted her chin, leaning down until their lips barely touched—
A knock echoed through the salon suite.
“Shauna! Your client’s here!”
Collin smiled against her ear. “Guess I’ll show you later.”

Miles watched as Ashley stepped out of the restroom wiping her hands on her jeans and make her way back to the arcade. She had been avoiding him since they got the pizza. It was killing him that she hasn’t told him why Andre called. He knew that whatever it is, it wasn’t good. If his case hadn’t been dropped, Miles would still be prison for another year. He would’ve missed five birthdays for Sean. Five years without being with Ashley. His mom. Trish.
“Miles,” Miles looked up and Collin was practically shoving Solace in his face.
“Come on bruh, I’m not changing no diapers.”
“Ain’t nobody asking you to change no diapers. Just hold her man.”
"Why?” Miles frowned
“Just take the baby, bruh.” Collin insisted. Miles rolled his eyes and took Solace from Collin. She stared at him as if trying to remember him before grabbing his nose.
“So you’re gonna try and take my nose? Huh?”
“Feel better?” Miles gave in as he kept playing with Solace.
“Yeah, takes me back to when Sean was this little.”
“Aight, now air out. What’s up with you and Ash?”
“Aint nothin' wrong, we cool.”
“You sure? That don’t look like cool.”
“Man we good.” Miles stressed
“You know you can talk to me about anything.”
Miles opened his mouth to but immediately closed it before simply nodding his head.
“I know bruh.”
“Good, can you hold her while I pull the car up?” Miles nodded again before Collin jogged outside
“Guess it’s just you and me, Solace. Don’t tell your Mommy and Daddy but your Uncle Miles gonna show you how to play spades cause your parents ain’t better than me.”
From across the bowling alley Ashley stood by the arcade watching Miles. She knows she has to tell Miles sooner or later about Andre wanting to stay with them, but she knows that the answer will be no. A part of her wants to say no and to leave them alone but she heard his voice over the phone and he sounds different, like the old Andre before he got caught up in all this mess.
“Ash, what’s going on?” Shauna questioned pulling her friend out of her thoughts
“Nothin.”
“Why the hell you over here then, you only bowled one round.”
“Just keepin’ an eye on the boys. You know I just saw this true crime story about these two kids who were taken out the arcade.”
“Really? Ash you can’t even watch Law & Order let alone true crime.”
“You can never be too sure.”
“Ashley, be for real. Come on talk to me.” Ashley moved closer so that the boys wouldn’t hear her.
“Andre called me.”
“Your brother?”
“Yeah, I haven’t seen him since that time he popped up at Sean’s 7th birthday party.”
“What did he want?” Ashley opened her mouth to respond. When Collin called out to Shauna.
“Babe, I got the car ready.”
“Call me later?” Ashley nodded her head, “Zan, let’s go.”
“Come on Mom. One more game.”
“Boy, if you don’t come on. Don’t make me get your dad.” Zan huffed before hugging Sean to run over to Shauna.
“Say bye to your auntie.”
“Bye Auntie Ashley.”
“Bye, Zan. Maybe your mom and I can plan a sleepover for you and Sean.”
“Really?” Ashley nodded her head. Not without earning a playful eyeroll from Shauna. Zan ran off to Collin to tell him.
“So, they gonna tear up your house, right?” Shauna teased, the two women hugged. “You know I’m here for you girl.”
“I know.” Ashley watched as Shauna and Zan walked over to Collin. Miles came back inside and motioned his head toward the door. Ashley nodded, turning to Sean.
“Sean, come on. Let’s go. It’s getting late.”
In the car the silence was anything but peaceful. Sean keeps stealing glances at his parents from his switch, he was old enough to know when his parents weren’t good. This was one of those times.
Miles kept his eyes on the road the entire time. Ashley’s eyes were between the window and the rearview mirror, keeping an eye on Sean.
“So, you really not gonna tell me what he wanted?” Miles started
“We’re not having this conversation right now.” She stressed
“So, when Ashley?”
“Not now.” Miles tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
“Whatever it is the answer is no. I’m not putting up with him—”
“Miles!” Ashley hissed through her teeth “We’re not doing this right now.” She said motioning to Sean who was clearly pretending to be on his phone in the backseat.
“I’m saying, why wait unless you really considering what he’s asking.” Ashley sat back and looked out the window, choosing not to answer because the truth is she was considering it.
“Ash. Ashley.”
“Miles, I swear to God.” She stressed. There was a brief silence in the car before Sean spoke up.
“You guys okay?”
“Yeah.” They both said simultaneously. They looked each other briefly before looking straight ahead. Both agreeing silently that they would continue later.
When they got home Sean raced through the door. Miles and Ashley trailed behind him, looking but not talking.
“Go ahead and go to your room, Sean.” Ashley said, Sean groaned in response.
“Can I stay up a little bit? Amir just texted me they’re about to get on a game.”
“It’s way too late for the game, tell them you’ll play tomorrow.” Sean huffed and was about to say something else when Miles gave him a look and he closed his mouth, defeated
“Okay.”
“Alright, now get on to bed.” Sean dragged his feet as he walked to his room. Miles and Ashley waited until Sean closed his door before both heading to the kitchen. Miles sat at the kitchen table while Ashley started to wash some dishes she didn’t get to before bowling. They stood in the tension filled silence as Miles scrolled aimlessly on his phone.
Ashley sighed, now that they were finally alone Miles didn’t want to the be the first one to bring it up.
“So, you not gonna talk now? You had so much to say in front of an audience.”
“I’m waiting on you, babe. You said later, .” Ashley rolled her eyes
“I don’t have time for this childish bull shit. What do you wanna know Miles?”
“You know what I wanna know. Why did he call you?”
“He wants stay with us for his probation.” Ashley muttered. Miles went wide eyed
“I know I’m hearing things. Say that again.” Miles stood up
“Miles don’t make me say it again.”
“No, because I thought you said, that he wants to stay with us for his probation.”
“Miles, I know how this sounds.”
“He go to a halfway house? Hmm, I wonder why.”
“That was years ago.”
“And yet here we are.” They both stared at each other, breathing heavily neither one of them wanting to give in.
“He’s not staying here.” Miles said definitively he took a long swig of his beer and stormed out of the kitchen, Ashley hot on his trail.
“So, that’s it then? What you says goes? End of discussion.”
“Ash, he’s not staying here. I can’t believe you’re even considering it.”
“He’s my brother! What am I supposed to do? Let him stay out in the street!”
“That’s the life he chose and that’s not your responsibility! That’s your fucking problem you always taking care of him. He’s not a baby, Ashley. His own choices got him here.”
“You don’t think I know that!”
“Do you? Or did you forget what happened four years ago?”
“That’s not fair.”
“What’s not fair is that I could be still be locked up!”
“You don’t think I know that?”
“No you don’t! You ain’t take the fall!” Miles yelled taking Ashley back
“It could’ve been five years without you, Sean, my mom, Trish! You think I wanted to see my son grow up through a glass? You think that’s how I wanted to propose to you?! Marry you? 48 hours once a month. That’s it. That’s all I would’ve had to hold on to for five years and you want to invite that back into our home?”
“I was just as pissed off as you. I haven’t even spoken to him since Sean was 7. But he’s my brother Miles. I promised my mom—”
“I know that you’d take care of him. Come the fuck on Ash! Think about Sean do you really want him around this?”
“I am thinking about Sean, you don’t know how hard this is for me!”
“It shouldn’t be that hard Ash! He’s not coming here.”
“You’re acting like I already made a decision!”
“Shit, it seems like it. At some point Ashley you gotta pic between being his sister and being my wife!”
Before Ashley could respond they heard a door shut. Both of their heads turned toward the sound and they inwardly groaned. Sean’s door. They both looked at each other, with nothing left to say; having already said too much and too stubborn to admit it.
“Good night.” Ashley said quietly before going back to the room and shutting the door behind her. Miles stared at the door—longer than he wanted to. He wanted to go after her but his feet wouldn’t allow him to move.
On the other side of the door. Ashley’s hand hovered over the knob. Instead, she snatched her hand away, pressing it to her chest like it burned.
She plopped down onto the bed and groaned in frustration. The apartment stayed quiet after that.
Miles didn’t sleep much. Not really.
Every time he shifted in the bed, he half-expected Ashley to turn toward him. She didn’t. Her back stayed to him, rigid, like sleep never quite came for her either.
At some point, the hum of the city outside softened into early morning stillness.
And just like that, it was the next day.
The alarm went off. Too soon. Miles was quick to turn it off. Already awake. He exhaled slowly and sat up.
In the kitchen, Ashley stood at the counter, already packing Miles’ breakfast and lunch. A travel mug sat waiting for him to grab.
Miles walked in. They looked at each other, nodded once, and mumbled a quiet good morning before moving around the kitchen like muscle memory took over where words didn’t.
“Sean up?”
“Yeah. I woke him up.”
“Good.”
They moved in silence, careful not to bump into each other.
“I gotta head out earlier today,” Miles said. “I need the car.”
Ashley’s jaw tightened.
“How am I supposed to pick up Sean and take him to karate after school?”
“I can take him.”
“But it’s easier if I do,” she said. “I get off before school lets out. Why can’t you ride with Collin?”
“He’s at the San Leandro location today.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t find out until this morning.”
Ashley exhaled through her nose.
“So what about me?”
“I gotta be at work, Ash.”
“That’s not what I asked.”
Miles’ tone sharpened. “That’s not my problem.”
“It kinda is.”
“Ashley, I don’t have time—”
“Mom! Where’s my homework?”
“In the living room!” she called back, not taking her eyes off Miles.
She turned away first, shaking her head as she finished packing Sean’s lunch.
“Don’t worry about it,” she said. “I’ll make it work.”
Miles hesitated.
“Really?”
“Yeah.” She nodded once, tight. “I’m cool.”
“You sure?”
Ashley didn’t look up this time.
“Yeah.”
Sean ran into the kitchen, seemingly unaware of the tension that had been brewing moments before.
“Morning!” he said brightly, climbing into the chair beside Miles at the table.
“Morning, baby. Eat your breakfast.” Ashley set a hot plate of eggs, toast, and bacon in front of him.
“So Mom. Dad.” Sean took a bite, chewing fast. “I’ve been thinking. I wanna go to Hyphy Laser Tag this weekend.”
“Hyphy Laser Tag?” Ashley echoed.
“Yeah! Amir was talking about it at school. Can I go? Please?”
Miles and Ashley exchanged a look—quick, automatic.
“We’ll think about it,” Miles said. “Go on and eat. I’m taking you to school today.”
Sean grinned and dug back in, satisfied.
“Come on Sean! I don’t wanna sit in the drop-off line.” Miles called out. Ashley slowly walked toward him, his bagged breakfast and lunch and travel mug in hand. She handed him his food wordlessly.
Miles hesitated-just a second as if he wanted to say more.
Sean raced down the hall, backpack halfway on his back. Almost running past Ashley.
“Hey, hey, hey. No hug? Kiss?” Sean playfully rolled his eyes. He hugged Ashley and she kissed him on his forehead.
“Have a good day. Love you.”
“Thanks Mom, love you too.”
Sean looked at his parents expectedly. They both raised an eyebrow in confusion.
“Mom you didn’t say I love you to Dad. You guys always say that and kiss.”
Why did they give birth to such an observant child?
“Unless, Dad’s breath stinks?”
“What the hell?”
“Mom you can tell me if it stinks. I can talk to him in the car.”
“Get your nosy self in the car so we can go.” Miles handed Sean the keys who snickered and jogged to the car. Miles and Ashley stood at the doorway.
“Drive safe.” Ashely said quietly
“Yeah thanks.”
They kissed hurriedly. Awkwardly. Ashley stepped back inside.
“Hey,”
She turned around
“I love you.”
“Love you too.” Ashley walked back inside and closed the door. Miles stared at the door before Sean honked the horn.

“What do you mean we can’t break up? It’s not even fucking real!” Tierra exclaimed to her manager
“Look as soon as you guys dropped the song, we submitted it to the Grammys and you guys are on the shortlist. So, you two break up now and you can kiss the Grammys goodbye.” Julie explained Tierra rolled her eyes she hasn’t talked to Shaun since that night at the club and she doesn’t plan on talking to him anytime soon.
“Julie, promise me that after all of this is done, we can ‘break up’?”
“Maybe, we’ll talk about it when the time comes.” Tierra scoffed not satisfied with that answer but decided to drop it, she didn't want to keep beating a dead horse.
“Fine, what’s next on the agenda?” Tierra pressed, ready to leave this meeting
“Uh don’t forget the music video shoot for the song is tomorrow you need to be on set by 6:00 AM. Also, we need you to vlog the video shoot I got you a partnership with Neutrogena.”
“Julie, when were you gonna say something? I don’t even use Neutrogena.”
“I just told you, didn’t I?” Tierra scoffed in annoyance
“Also, this morning we just got word from the VMA’s they want you guys to perform the song this weekend. Taylor Swift dropped out and they needed a replacement.”
“So, I’m a second option?”
“Tierra you lucky you’re even an option at all. If you weren’t dating Shaun no one would want you on their stage and that’s the truth.” Julie said harshly
“Wow,” Tierra scoffed
“Tierra, that’s not what I meant.” Tierra ignored Julie as she gathered her things “Tierra! Come on,”
“I have to do some reshoots for black-ish. I’ll see you at the video shoot tomorrow.”
Tierra sat on set looking over the new script, Kenya had the “great idea” of doing a scene where Rainbow and Dre catch her character and Johan together in bed. Tierra couldn’t get her head straight; she was still upset over her meeting with Julie.
“What’s wrong, miss your boyfriend?” Daveed smirked as he walked past her
“Daveed, I don’t have time for your shit today.” She snapped; Daveed raised his hands in defense
“Wow, just trying to make conversation.”
“Didn’t want one,”
“The fuck is your problem?”
“Didn’t you tell me to leave you alone, maybe you should take your own advice?” Tierra turned away and joined the rest of the crew as they listened to the director.
“Alright so for this scene, it’s really quick we’re adding it to the end of the Sister, Sister episode.” The director set the scene, but the only thing Tierra could think about is Shaun, he’s tried calling her, but she’s been ignoring him since the weekend.
“Tierra?” Daveed called out to you
“Huh, what?”
“They need you in wardrobe.” She nodded before quickly walking off the set. Wardrobe didn’t take long she was only wearing a flesh-tone tube top with matching shorts. She went back to her trailer to drop off her phone and when she walked inside Shaun was sitting on the sofa. He looked at Tierra with a soft smile on his face, and when she didn’t return it, he cleared his throat awkwardly.
“Hey, babe.”
“What are you doing here?” She asked
“I wanted to talk.”
“How did you even get in here?”
“Girl, you know who I am,” He said smugly
“I’m working, Marvin.”
“Damn, you still calling me Marvin?” He joked
“You lucky I don’t call Security,” She challenged
“Aight, aight, aight, I’m being a jackass. I’m sorry, can we just pretend nothing happened,”
“No, Marvin we can’t just act as if nothing happened. Look I have to go back to work, they need me on set.” Tierra turned to leave but Marvin grabbed her wrist, causing her to jerk back.
“Why you in such a hurry? Trying to see Daveed?” Marvin accused with his face dangerously close to hers, that’s when Tierra got a whiff of his breath
“Have you been drinking?”
“Is that why you haven’t been answering my calls? You fuckin him already!” Marvin yelled Tierra shushed him
“Can you shut the fuck up before someone hears you!” Tierra said forcefully, truthfully, she was starting to get nervous as his grip on her tightened.
“Marvin let me go!”
“No, we gonna have this conversation now,” Just then Heavy knocks were at her trailer door, and before Tierra could respond, the door opened to reveal Anthony Anderson and Laurence Fishbourne. Marvin instantly let Tierra go and they sprung away from each other. The two men glared at Marvin
“Everything okay in here?” Laurence questioned
“Yeah, we good.” Marvin snapped,
“He was asking Tierra,” Anthony stressed he then looked at Tierra waiting for her answer.
“I’m fine, Anthony, I promise. We were just talking,” She insisted
“Well, they need you on set,” Anthony said not taking his eyes off Marvin “now.”
“Okay, I’ll be there in a minute,”
“We’ll walk together,” Laurence insisted, Tierra looked at Marvin before quickly leaving her trailer and following Anthony and Laurence to set.
“You sure you okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine.”
“Do you want us to make him leave?” Laurence offered
“No, it’s fine guys, really. We were just having a discussion.” She pressed, sensing that she didn’t want to talk about it further they dropped the topic.
“Thanks for tonight, Johan I had fun,” Melody said as she played with Johan’s hair
“Are you thanking me for sex?” Johan questioned genuinely confused
“No! Moron, for the date, this was just a bonus.” She flirted
“We’re back home Corbin Bleu” The sound of Andre’s voice startled them
“I thought you said they were going out for dinner!” Melody whispered loudly
“They’re back earlier, hide.” Melody quickly dipped beneath the covers the door opened and Rainbow’s smile flattered
“Oh, I’m sorry, I thought you were still up.”
“Yep, I’m asleep, no, I’m not asleep obviously, my eyes are still open. I am about to fall asleep.” Rainbow frowned
“Why are you acting so weird?”
“Acting weird? You usin’ drugs in my house Hippie?” Andre accused approaching the guest room. Johan groaned inwardly why is everyone coming to his room?
“No, I’m just tired long day.” He insisted with nervousness, Andre examined the room and could clearly see someone was hiding next to Johan.
“You got some floozy in my house!”
“What?”
“Who is that next to you?”
“Is it Ruby?” Rainbow whispered
“What?! You corrupted my Mama! Mama!”
“Boy, I’m right here, what’s wrong?”
“What, you ain’t sleep with Johan?”
“I wish,” She said winking at Johan.
“Then who’s that?” Rainbow asked, Melody meekly poked her head from underneath the covers earning a gasp from everyone.
“Melody?” Andre cracked, Rainbow smirked, and Ruby glared at the girl next to “Her” Johan.
“Hi,”
“And CUT! That was great guys, I think we got in the first take, for safety let’s do it one more time.” Tierra was going back to her position when she caught Daveed looking at her.
“What?”
“Your wrist,” he said quietly
“Huh?”
“Your wrist, there’s a bruise.” Tierra looked down and went wide-eyed sure enough there was already a bruise forming from when Marvin grabbed her earlier
“Oh,”
“You okay?”
“I’m fine.”
“Tierra—”
“I said I’m fine.”
“Places!”
After shooting the scene, Tierra rushed back to wardrobe and then her trailer. She wasn’t surprised to see Marvin there, he was sleeping. Tierra rolled her eyes and started to gather all her things; she would wake him up when she was about to leave. She bent over to pick up her purse and she stood back up she felt hands grab her hips. She jumped and whipped her body around to see Marvin towering over her.
“Marvin, get off we have to leave.” She said ignoring his touch on her body. Marvin pulled her closer to him. Tierra tried to get out of his grasp, but he held her tighter.
“Marvin, I’m serious.”
“I missed you Tee,” He mumbled placing a kiss on her neck
“Marvin,” Marvin ignored her and kept kissing Tierra’s neck biting and nibbling on the sensitive skin along her neck. Marvin walked them back until they were on the couch. He sat down he motioned for her to join him. In the back of her mind, Tierra didn’t want to do this but maybe if she let him feel up on her for a minute, he’ll be fine then they can leave.
Tierra straddled him and pulled his face closer for a deep passionate kiss. Marvin's hands dipped underneath her shirt, caressing her back he started to pull her shirt off when Tierra pulled away
“What?” Marvin breathed
“I don’t wanna do this here,” Tierra said
“Come on babe, I’m so hard, just a quickie,”
“Marvin I—” Marvin cut her off with a kiss
“You said you saw a bruise?” Anthony asked Daveed
“Yeah, it was on her wrist, she kept saying that she was fine but…” He trailed on
“Is that jackass still here?” Laurence questioned walking over to the two men.
“I think so, let’s make sure they good. We can walk her to her car,” The three men approached her trailer, Anthony went to knock when they heard a loud moan. Anthony and Laurence cleared their throats embarrassed, while Daveed rolled his in annoyance
“She’s obviously fine,” He muttered before walking away
Tierra breathed heavily as she lay against Marvin’s chest, she got up and started to get dressed. She thought she would feel better, but she felt worse.
“What you doing later?”
“Um, nothing some writing and I gotta do a Vlog.”
“Wanna come over, we can go to the video shoot together.”
“I don’t have any clothes.”
“You not gonna need any,” Marvin said with a smirk, two weeks ago that would’ve sent shivers down Tierra’s spine, but now it makes her feel disgusted
“Thanks, but I have to do this Vlog. They sent the products to my apartment.” Marvin scoffed
“Aight,” He said annoyed
“The fuck is your problem?” Tierra asked fed up
“I ain’t got a problem,”
“Oh, so just because we fucked, I’m supposed to do whatever you say?”
“Don’t be putting words in my mouth I ain’t say that!”
“You don’t have to say it!” Tierra grabbed her bags and stormed out of the trailer; Marvin close on her heels behind her
“Tierra!” She ignored her “boyfriend” and continued her stride to her car
“Tierra! Bitch I know you hear me callin’ your name!” That made Tierra whip her body around to face him
“Who the fuck you talking to like that?” She demanded
“I’m talking to you!”
“I’m not one of your little hoe ass groupies, you not gonna talk to me like that!”
“I talk to you however I wanna talk to you!”
“Fuck you Marvin, don’t fucking follow me!” Tierra went to open her car door when Marvin got in front of her and closed it
“Marvin get the hell out of my way!”
“Everything okay?” A security guard asked
“Yeah, we good Mall Cop go on back to your station,” Marvin said dismissively
“Excuse me?”
“We’re good Joe, we’re just leaving.” Tierra pushed past Marvin and got in her car he was still standing outside looking at her expectantly
“What the fuck you want now? You want me to suck your dick in the parking lot?”
“I need a ride,” He mumbled
“What?”
“I said I need a ride,”
“I know you fuckin lyin, Nigga how the fuck you get here?”
“I got an Uber,”
“Pay for another one,”
“Tierra, come on.”
Tierra was silent the entire drive back to her apartment she doesn’t know what compelled her to give Marvin a ride to his house. She wish she didn’t let him convince her to go inside but then one thing led to another and here she is driving home at 3 in the morning. She tiredly got out of the car wanting nothing more than to take a shower.
When she got out of the elevator on her floor, she was grateful to not see Daveed, he was probably out, and she wasn’t in the mood to talk to anyone. She dragged her feet throughout her apartment and fell onto the bed exhausted and went straight to sleep she had to be at the music video shoot early in the morning.
The next morning Tierra tiredly sat in the makeup chair on the set of the music video. Her call time was the ungodly hour of 6 AM. The video has an Afro-futuristic vibe to it, Shaun ordered a streaming service that comes with an AI female robot which is where Tierra comes in. Then she ends up pulling him into the TV screen and seduces him, hence the early call time she had a very detailed makeup look for the video, Tierra had been sitting in the chair for almost an hour and a half and she still wasn’t even being close to done.
“Good Morning Sleeping Beauty!” Julie said loudly coming into the trailer, Tierra ignored her manager and kept scrolling on her social media.
“Morning, Tierra.”
“Good Morning,” Tierra said flatly
“You wanna know what I saw this morning on Instagram?”
“No,”
“I’m gonna tell you anyway. You know, of course, the Kardashians post every day, Everyone hates Jay-Z for cheating on Beyonce, and The Shade Room had some gossip on Ray J and his wife or whatever, but what I didn’t see was the fucking Neutrogena vlog I asked you to do, not even on your YouTube page.” Julie said angrily, Tierra sighed
“I forgot, I’m sorry Julie. I got home late after leaving Shaun’s—”
"Oh, so you were at Shaun's I thought you wanted me to end everything?" Julie asked accusingly
"It's not like that--"
“I don’t want an excuse Tierra, you need to post two videos when you leave today. Don’t fuck this up!” Julie said before she stormed away
Tierra avoided Shaun as much as she could while on set and didn’t talk to him unless she had to which was limited to “Excuse me” or a simple nod. Tierra sat on Shaun’s lap while they listened to the scene that the director was setting up. Tierra tuned him out trying to think of anything else than what she was currently doing.
“Tierra? You ready?” Slightly embarrassed that she zoned out, she nodded her head.
“Playback music and ACTION!”
Tierra lip-synched the words to the song while she danced on Shaun’s lap. His hands roamed over her body which didn’t bother her too much it was for the video but it was when he started to openly grope her in front of everyone on the set. She chose to ignore it at the moment and continue the scene. It wasn’t until he moaned in her ear that she broke and quickly hopped off his lap.
“Tierra, what’s wrong?” the director asked upset at her breaking the scene. She looked at the many faces behind the camera and could see the irritated looks.
“Nothing I uh,”
“It’s alright Bill, that was my bad,” Shaun smirked causing some of the men to laugh. Tierra held back an eye roll annoyed and wanting nothing more than to get this over with.
All Tierra wanted to do was get in her bed, her phone dinged for what must’ve been the 100th time today. All of them from Julie about the reminder to do the Vlog. At this point, Tierra could care less about the Vlog matter of fact she could care less about everything right now. She closed all her blinds, grateful for the blackout shades. She felt so used after dealing with the shit Marvin has been putting her through from the club, the black-ish shoot, and then today for the video. Tierra wanted to curl up into a ball and cry. She got into bed and pulled out her phone to call the one person she knew would make her feel better. She clicked on the name and hoped that she would receive the ringtone back
“I’m sorry the number you are trying to reach is no longer available. Please hang up and try again. Thank you.”
