The Police Came Out and Filmed The Show

On August 10th 1956 Elvis performed three shows at the Florida Theatre, taking to the stage at 3, 7 and 9pm. After the first show Elvis was visited in his dressing room by Judge Marion Gooding who warned that if he continued to gyrate during his next performance that he would be arrested on stage, under public decency laws and face jail time. This was the incident Elvis recalled during the '68 comeback sit-down shows:

"the police came out and they filmed the show one time in Florida. I couldn't move, I had to stand still. The only thing I could move wasy little finger for the whole show."

Famously the girls still screamed for Elvis' pinkie wiggle and he performed a further three times in Jacksonville the following day.
