Something I’ve realized is that trans fems that hate trans mascs seem to think we experienced the same male privilege they experienced before they transitioned when really we didn’t because up until we transition and even after, we experience the world seeing us as women and the struggles and oppression that come with it.
But these people who go ‘trans mascs need to learn to shut up’ seem to think we never experienced the struggles women have faced or that they magically disappeared once we figured shit out.
Like, no, we still experience that shit, especially if we don’t pass. We experience the same reproductive healthcare struggles as cis women on top of transphobia, we still have periods, we still need to worry about pregnancy. And for some of us, our periods can make us dysphoric! From what I know bottom surgery for trans mascs is harder to get then bottom surgery for trans fems, and that’s not to say that trans mascs suffer more then trans fems, it is not a contest.
But, it’s fuckin odd that these people seem to think we gain privilege just because we identify as male, even if the rest of the world doesn’t see us as male.
Like, what gives y’all the right to speak over US when we gain no social benefit from identifying as male? Unless we pass really well and no one ever finds out, we suffer more than we benefit.
We make our own term, transandrophobia, so that we can speak about our unique and specific experiences without speaking over trans fem experiences, we get shit on for it. But I bet if we all used the transphobia tag to talk about specifically trans masc experiences the very same trans fems would complain that we’re clogging up the tag and talking over women. There’s no winning, is there?
Edit: BTW this isn’t to say trans fems do not suffer growing up. Growing up perceived male while identifying female means you are shamed for your emotions, toxic masculinity is a devastating thing, I would never say trans fems do not suffer, but ya gotta realize that just as y’all were treated like shit for not being masculine enough, for showing emotions, for any hint of femininity, we also get that shit on top of the sexism girls have to deal with.
Neither of us suffered more than the other, we both deserve the ability to talk about it, that’s my point.
