Ely and I are doing Large Leves in HW content to raise some gil today while I ignore Main Story because a character I always want to punch is incoming; I always love it when her Ahriman mounts come out.

❖ One habit they can’t break: Teasing Ilan without mercy. Though, she doesn’t particularly want to, so...

Late night in the Gold Saucer for Ely and Presh, 69/430+ tomestones! Slowly but surely, we're getting there.

Well, it's that time again! Moogle Tomestones! Ely's going to be living in the Gold Saucer in between fishing and HoH for a while!

Content warning! Ely has a panic attack stemming from a nightmare-memory in this one and goes selectively mute for a unspecified period of time. Allusions to Canon, and Final Fantasy in general, typical Garlean Scientists and their general lack of Spoken Decency, and Zenos'... everything in Garlemald, but nothing explicit and absolutely no worse than anything we see or read in Stormblood, Shadowbringers and Endwalker. Mind your headspace. Things are disjointed and vague because Ely isn't in the best headspace and time went a little wibbly on her.

Ely shoots upright in bed, her breathing coming in rapid, ragged gasps. The nightmare-memory sits in the forefront of her head like a lead weight -white coats and white gloves and needles and cold eyes and cold voices and white, white, white!- She shudders and struggles to bring her breathing back from the edge of hyperventilation. Her hands ache from the cold outside, the silver shards long ago embedded into them stinging and the scars pulling uncomfortably. 

Dimly, she recognizes that she’s having a panic attack, even as she tries to focus on her breathing. Alright, five things she can see. The woodfire boiler, the heavy wool curtain covering the doorway to the two bedrooms, the tea kettle on the stove, it’s getting ready to start screaming, Simon going to grab it, the window, it’s snowing outside. Ely takes a shuddering breath, four beings she can sense: Quinlie’s downstairs tending the animals, Soraana is with her, gathering the eggs and milking the goats. Iris’s still asleep, but she’s waking up, and she can see Simon so he doesn’t count. One more… Ely’s panic spikes, and she wrenches herself back into the exercise, one more… there! Sahji was still at the Burrow, just a few alleyways down, aether presence worryingly like melting ice but… that was not Ely’s problem. Fen and Ryuu were on it and they had the watch and would hold the line. Sahji would be fine. He would. Ely would not lose another sibling. Three things she can hear - The snow had picked up outside and the wind was howling on the corner of the house nearest her. Quin was tromping up the stairs, footsteps heavy, she probably had a pail of milk to use. Simon had caught the kettle before it could start shrieking. Two things she could smell, The scent of hot water being poured over chai, Simon was making a cup for her, none of the others had ever gotten the taste for chai, and… woodsmoke, from the fireplaces and boilers. One thing she could taste: bile in the back of her throat, from the nightmare. It was disgusting and her mouth felt like something had crawled into it in the night and died. Eaugh. 

Ely takes one last, deep shuddering breath and wipes a hand down her face, not startling at Simon’s, “Here. You back with us?” at her elbow. 

Ely nods and pushes the blankets down the bed and shifts to sit cross legged. She opens her mouth to thank the Elezen but the words get stuck in her throat. She makes a face and instead signs ‘Thanks, Si.’ 

The lines at the corners of Simon’s eyes loosen slightly, “Of course. Want me to wake Iris?” 

Ely shakes her head, ‘No. Let her sleep. She had a bad night too and dropped off at around third bell.’ 

Simon nods and pats Ely’s shoulder once, not moving so slowly as to be obvious, but telegraphing his movements nonetheless, “Sure, washroom’s open if you want it and I could use some help in fending Quin off from ‘helping’ make breakfast.” His voice rose slightly at the end of his sentence, obviously intending to be heard by the short woman who’d just opened the front door. 

Quin makes an ugly face at him, “Asshole.” Ely huffs her amusement, finishes her chai and makes for the washroom, absently itching at her night braids as she went. Outside, Ishgard slowly woke to a new day and a continuing snowstorm. She was still alive and those that haunted her nightmares were not, tempered and sacrificed to a mad nihilist's ambitions. Healing was one step forwards and two steps back and no one here minded that today might be a Quiet Day. It was fine. Ely would live, in spite of scientists and doctors in white and punishments and scores that were never quite high enough to please their impossible standards. Check and mate, assholes. She’d won in the end.
