Characters of a new world that came to me in a dream about alien vampires and dragons! I'm gonna tentatively call the story Nēr Light. Like near light, heh. Both of them are they/them, though Sier's ok if you use she/her.

Sier Avaren works on an outpost on a planet called Archeiah. A mysterious energy they call "starlight" radiates from the core of them planet. All flora and fauna seem to have a similar composition of "blood," which they call ichor, that absorbs the energy. No humans can consume anything on the planet, so they live solely off of supplies from Earth.

The alien dragons, which are called Nulls, seem to be the most concentrated in starlight. Their ichor deems to be uniquely saturated, absorbing starlight endlessly.

One day, the researchers got their hands on some Null ichor through... less than tasteful means, and the Nulls became aggressive and began attacking the base.

They held out a bit, but Earth quickly deemed the outpost a lost cause and abandoned support, slowly cutting off supplies and leaving them to die.

One day, Sier finds Elyra, an injured Null. They help them out, and Elyra afflicts them with a mysterious condition. Their body changes, and they find that they can breathe the air of Archeiah and consume only ichor to survive. Those with this condition are called the nēr (pronounced near, plural nērs).

Later, they discover that if a nēr primarily consumes the ichor of a specific Null, they develop a metaphysical bond, being able to feel each other's presence and communicate mentally. This is what occurs with Sier and Elyra.
