Collaborative project management is a decentralized approach to project planning, where all tasks are shared across team members, including planning, decision-making, and execution
It involves all project participants in the planning, decision-making, and execution, which empowers teams to collaborate, take ownership of the success of a project, and reduce information silos
The project management life cycle consists of five distinct phases, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure
These phases are a roadmap for the team to follow as they work on the project. The following are the five phases of project management:
-Initiation: In this phase, the project is defined on a broad level. This is the time to identify project sponsors and stakeholders and begin the initial research phase. It’s also a good idea to document the project in writing so you can easily distribute the communication plan to the rest of the team
Planning: In this phase, the team creates a detailed project plan, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. The team also identifies potential risks and develops a risk management plan
-Execution: In this phase, the team puts the plan into action. The team members work on their assigned tasks, and the project manager monitors progress to ensure that the project stays on track
-Monitoring and Controlling: In this phase, the project manager monitors the project's progress and makes adjustments as needed. The team also identifies and addresses any issues that arise during the project
-Closure: In this phase, the project is completed, and the team delivers the final product to the client. The team also conducts a post-project review to identify areas for improvement in future projects
To improve collaboration among team members, it is essential to have open communication, clear workflows, and effective collaboration tools
By following the five phases of project management and implementing best practices for collaborative project management, teams can work together more effectively and efficiently to achieve project success.

Emerging Technologies Surrounding Business Innovations (March 15, 2014): Afternoon Session
For the last day of the symposium, unfortunately, I was only able to attend the afternoon session. But, I was still able to learn new things from the afternoon session. The theme for the afternoon session is “Emerging Technologies Surrounding Business Innovations”. Basically, it is all about business technology innovations. The first speaker for that afternoon was Mr. Fredie Cadac. He talked about Fire Suppression System and Constructions Technologies. He presented to us the different technologies that could be applied in houses in order to prevent fire. I think that this kind of technology should be a standard in every household here in our country. A lot of fire accidents happen and it is not nice. This technology could help save fire-prone houses.
Following Mr. Cadac’s talk was Mr. Lee Mojado. Mr. Mojado talked about Big Data. The topic that he presented was not really new to me because, this topic was also reported by a group in our class. He discussed how important big data is in our world today because of the rapid growth of data files. Big data is currently being used by a lot of companies today. They use this as a way to analyze their business strategies. With the rapid advancements in the world of technology today, I can say that big data is really one important concept or technology since it helps business with their strategies.
After the Big Data talk by Mr. Mojado, Ms. Lea Capati from Indra was next talking about Business Intelligence in different Information Systems. One IS that Ms. Capati presented was the Traffic Management System used by MMDA called “HERMES”. She said that HERMES, one of their information systems, is currently being used by MMDA for proper traffic management. She also said that this system is being used in the NLEX toll to properly monitor traffic. In this way, there would be less car accidents along the road. The next system that she presented was a billing system. It was a mobile device wherein it can print in front of us. This billing system is very convenient and can be applied in different fields. The last system that Ms. Capati presented was a sewerage system. She just said that they are currently working with Maynilad for proper sewerage system. Ms. Capati’s talk just made me realize that my degree program can really make a great impact to our society.
The last speaker for the day and for the whole symposium was Mr. Jason Acidre. He talked about Inbound Marketing through Search Engine Optimization. Inbound Marketing, as explained by Mr. Acidre, is a marketing strategy used by companies in their websites. He explained that through this, they make sure that a company’s website is easily search in the internet to attract clients. This strategy is being used by almost all companies who have their own websites. I think that this is not really an emerging technology but rather a business strategy that uses technology. With the rise of technology today, this concept is important for business for a wider client reach.
To sum it all up, the talks that I have attended to that day were very insightful. One thing that really struck me was that, my degree is not just any other college degree. My degree can help shape the society in the future to make it better. As an IT professional soon, I will be able to contribute in making our world better.
