Tucker’s Embark results! Full results: http://embk.me/tucker4829?utm_campaign=cns_ref_dog_pub_profile&utm_medium=other&utm_source=embark
The shelter listed him as a Border Collie mix (lol) and I was pretty sure he was a Golden Retriever/Border Collie/etc. mix so pretty surprised to find that he has neither. The Dachshund and Boston Terrier are pretty hilarious to me (he’s 48 pounds! and definitely not short!) but all the rest make sense/aren’t particularly surprising. His supermutt was Collie, Chow Chow, and Rottweiler. A little bit of everything! Sporting, herding (ish), bully/terrier, hounds, nonsporting, and working!
Aang, no surprise, came back spsp, aka lots of white spotting. This is exactly what I expected.
Azula though.... came back SS. “Little to no white spotting”. I was definitely expecting Ssp. Personally I wouldn’t consider her spotting “little”. But, I know embark is still refining the spotting results and that can be tricky (if not impossible) to predict spotting. I’m guessing Azula is affected by one of the “other causes” mentioned.
We were told she was a Carolina Dog. I thought she had a good chunk of Australian Cattle Dog in her. I’m honestly and truly surprised. Are we looking at the same dog??
Oops, I think I forgot to share this here: Warden's Embark results, essentially "We're a bit confused, but there's definitely Irish Wolfhound and Alaskan Malamute in there, along with a primitive breed or some sort??"
Embarkvet.com/dog/warden
Per pedigree and Embark testing, Warden's dam is mostly Irish Wolfhound and Alaskan Malamute, with a bit of wolf and Siberian Husky. Definitely no Greenland Dog from that side of things despite Warden's chromosome breakdown showing "Greenland Dog" as coming from the same side as the IW.
Greenland Dogs and wolves have been known to interbreed. Embark seemed pretty confident it wasnt wolf content when I asked them, but if their GD samples have individuals with wolf outcrossing, it's not impossible, especially considering how close the "GD" percentage is to his theoretical wolf % via pedigree and dam line Embark results.
His sire is a Karelian Bear Dog, which shows on his chromosome breakdown as "supermutt" and "Alaskan Malamute".
Embark has offered to rerun his swab in the future once they get Karelian Bear Dog in the database.
I got Reg’s Embark back today! His haplotype info is very interesting to me, as well as his COI%. I expected it to be kind of high, but not 32% (!!) I’m a bit surprised he isn’t a carrier for anything, but MDR1 affected I completely expected and would have bet money on. It's good to know that I've been treating him as affected so far for good reason!
Embark Vet dog DNA test - Aang wants to share his results with you!
EMBARK RESULTS ARE IN!
discussion under the cut, I hope some of you more embark/genetic savvy people don’t mind me tagging you @streetdogmillionaires @herebelife @noodle-dragon @lvtsoulstice (you said you love embark results :D )
and of course if anyone else would like to ask or answer any questions you’re more than welcome!
Things That Didn’t Surprise Me
- 100% Indian Indigenous Dog
- e/e recessive red
- wolfiness score (lowest of the four Indian Indigenous Dogs but in the same general range)
- his world map (the top center red dot is literally where he was picked up off the streets, Gurgaon, India)
Things That Surprise Me Immensely (and I don’t quite understand)
- Aang has a 46% COI 😱😱😱
- Aang is clear for all 160 health tests despite his high COI
- Aang tested as B/B, meaning he should have all black pigment, right? That seems off to me, considering his nose and eye rims are a shade of brownish pink. However I was always intrigued by the fact that his lip pigment and eyes are very dark. I plan on asking about this in a coat color genetics group on FB, hopefully they can help explain this to me.
- Aang also tested as I/I, which, according to Embark, means that he has an improper/furnished coat. The picture above, and his general lack of beard/other long coat, shows otherwise nevermind, this actually means Aang has “improper coat”. I still don’t know what that means but I don’t think it means he’s supposed to be bearded.
that’s all I can think of for now, I’m sure I’ll end up having more questions/comments in the future.
I did Embark for Lana because I had too. Well. I didn't HAVE to but the curiosity was eating me alive so same thing. As a quick disclaimer, I am aware that the dog DNA tests are in debate about whether the science is there yadda yadda.
Anyway! Color me shocked when I got the danged results back and it says The Terrible Child ™ is 💯 cane corso 😂 I just figured that as a BYB special she'd have SOMETHING else in her, especially since she's so off standard. But naw. She is just poorly bred & ugly compared to a correct cane corso.
If you'd like to check out her results, feel free!
