Mermaid!Yoongi x Reader. Meet-cute. Please and thank you. =D
The sun flashed off something shiny in the sand, and you rushed towards it curiously. A glint of gold had you reaching out and grasping what appeared to be an old coin. Like really old, ancient even. That, or it was some prop or toy made to look old, you mused.
You plop down onto the sand and play with the coin as you observe the water. It was a beautiful sunny day, perfect for relaxing on the beach. Although it would probably be better if you weren’t alone.
You wished you had someone you could share these sort of days with. It had been awhile since you’d even tried to find someone, though.
You sigh and look at the coin. If you had a wishing well or fountain nearby you’d make a wish with it. Wish that you could find someone worth your time.
Then you pause, observing the coin thoughtfully. Is it the fountain or the coin that matters? You shrug, deciding what could it hurt to try. It’s not like wishes ever came true anyway.
You stand up and hold the coin in both hands, deciding to be totally ridiculous and do the whole works since there was no one here to judge you. You close your eyes and try to infuse the coin with all the desires of your heart, all the loneliness you felt, and the hope. Then, you look out over the water and bring back your arm, throwing it as hard as you could.
Admittedly, it wasn’t very far as you weren’t exactly that strong. But it went out a decent amount and you watched it splash into the ocean with a satisfied smile.
You stood there watching the slight waves for a few more moments then turned to leave.
“Why are you humans always throwing shit here? Do I bust into your dumb houses and throw trash inside? No, because I’m not a dick.”
You gasp and turn around, looking for the voice. You are confused for a few minutes when you can’t find the source. There’s a huge splash in the water and you turn towards it with wide eyes.
“Yeah, over here barnacle brain.”
There in the water is a...man? With a tail?
“You’re a...mermaid?”
He shrugs, the sunlight glinting beautifully off of his pearlescent scales as he floated closer.
“Merman, or just Mer. We don’t really use labels down here.”
“Sorry,” you reply stupidly, probably at least a little bit in shock over what you’re seeing.
He shrugs again, then flips the coin towards you. “Why were you throwing a perfectly good piece of pirate treasure into the ocean anyway?” he asks, his voice making you realize how close he actually was finally.
He’s so close to you now that if he swam just a little bit closer he’d probably ended up beached. As it was, he was in shallow enough waters for you to see every inch of him. From his midnight black hair to his pale skin untouched by the sun, his delicate elfin features, the beautiful tail with scales the color of Nacre.
He was otherworldly beautiful. He splashed his tail to get your attention, smirking knowingly as you blush. Finally, you remember he asked you a question.
“Oh, I was...uh. Making a wish?”
“A wish?” he scoffs. “Really?”
“What? You don’t believe in wishes?”
“Of course not. Who believes in made up crap like that?”
“Well, a few moments ago I thought mermaids were fake so...”
He shrugs and makes a little humming sound, which you interrupted to be ‘Touche’.
“What are you doing this close to shore anyway?”
“Looking for my mate.”
“Oh, you lost them?”
He looked at you like you’d lost your mind instead.
“No. I’m trying to find one. We only bond once, you know.”
You didn’t know, but you nodded your head in agreement anyway.
“You look nice enough. How old are you?” he asks suddenly, his gaze piercing and intense.
“Uh, probably about the same as you, I think,” you respond after a moment, looking him over.
He cackles, “I age a little slower than humans, so I doubt it. But I am a little old to be without a mate. My Queen decided it was time for me to go look, or I wouldn’t have bothered,” he rolls his eyes.
“You know, you’re a little sassier than I imagined mermaids would be,” you grin, and he promptly answers with one of his own.
“I’m amazing, right?”
You snort, but the smile remains as you observe him float around lazily. Every now and then he sneaks a look at you that you can’t decipher.
Suddenly, your stomach rumbles so loud that he laughs, his tiny teeth and gummy smile adorable. You grab your stomach and you just know that your face is red with embarrassment.
“Shut up,” you groan, both at him and at your stupid stomach.
“Go eat,” he orders. “You’ll scare away the fish.”
You nod and take a hesitant step away.
“Will I see you again?”
“I suppose you could always come by tomorrow and,” he nods towards the glinting coin, “make a wish.”
With a smirk, he dives into the water, his tail making a final wave before he completely disappears.
You smile softly and pick up the coin, holding it tightly in your grip.
Maybe wishes do come true.
