          It had been a few days since his father had sent him out on a separate mission from his younger siblings. Though he wouldn’t say it aloud or express it upon his features it was difficult. But he gives himself very little time to think about it. They were on opposite sides of the kingdom after all. So he gazes up towards the stars for a moment before his attention lands on the far off boarder that separates them their neighboring enemy.

          “Compared to Hoshido, Nohr must feel like perpetual night. Would that be correct?”

          “Professor, may I have a word?” Seeing as class has ended for the day and the rest of his house was filing out the door he makes his way to her desk. His hands fidget a bit by his sides as he watches her before averting his gaze to the board. There’s a bit of hesitation as he pulls in a breath and then his attention is fully back on Byleth.

          “When you close your eyes do you ever see the faces of those you’ve left behind?”

Komachi was a little nervous to approach Xander with the wrapped gift. She tried her best to make him the little cat statue, but she had no illusions over her skill. She just hoped that he'd recognize her effort and not take the poor quality as an insult. She took a deep breath before finally walking up to the prince and offering him the gift, "happy birthday, Your Highness."

          As she approaches, he looks up from his desk. His eyes ache a bit from reading over a rather wordy document, so he’s grateful for the reprieve ––– even if it’s only momentary. The corners of his lips tug up ever so slightly as he takes the gift into his hands.

          He’s never seen such a thing before. Or at least, he’s never seen it in Nohr. He’s read about them being a rather popular symbol of luck in Hoshido. And though he may not be fond of their sister country he can’t help but admit to himself that the cat itself is quite adorable. Whether he believed it would bring him luck though was something he would determine for himself later.

          “Thank you, Komachi. Would it be wrong to assume you made it yourself?” He gives a bit of a hum as he places it on a clear spot on his desk. Once he deems its spot sufficient he looks back up at her. He gives her a terse nod of his head. “Thank you again. I’ve never received something like this before. I like it.”
