Phew, all the birthday stuff for Xander is done! Thanks to everyone who sent in stuff for his birthday and to those that celebrated with him! It was lots of fun! And I know he appreciates it lots!!

Komachi was a little nervous to approach Xander with the wrapped gift. She tried her best to make him the little cat statue, but she had no illusions over her skill. She just hoped that he'd recognize her effort and not take the poor quality as an insult. She took a deep breath before finally walking up to the prince and offering him the gift, "happy birthday, Your Highness."
As she approaches, he looks up from his desk. His eyes ache a bit from reading over a rather wordy document, so he’s grateful for the reprieve ––– even if it’s only momentary. The corners of his lips tug up ever so slightly as he takes the gift into his hands.
He’s never seen such a thing before. Or at least, he’s never seen it in Nohr. He’s read about them being a rather popular symbol of luck in Hoshido. And though he may not be fond of their sister country he can’t help but admit to himself that the cat itself is quite adorable. Whether he believed it would bring him luck though was something he would determine for himself later.
“Thank you, Komachi. Would it be wrong to assume you made it yourself?” He gives a bit of a hum as he places it on a clear spot on his desk. Once he deems its spot sufficient he looks back up at her. He gives her a terse nod of his head. “Thank you again. I’ve never received something like this before. I like it.”

It was never easy to get Xander a birthday gift. What do you get someone who doesn't seem to really want anything in particular? It took Leo a little bit, but chess set finally caught his attention. He was sure Xander would appreciate the intricate detail, and chess was a game the two had bonded over for years. He figured he'd have to place the gift and a birthday note for Xander, but was pleasantly surprised to see his brother. He gave him a smile and handed him the gift, "happy birthday."
Despite it being his birthday, Xander still found himself to be quite busy. Perhaps he took a few longer breaks here and there, but he still could find a quill in his hand or himself sitting at a meeting for the majority of it. So it’s nice to take a moment to breathe in the silence of the throne room. A few minutes away from the squabbling of others that was always a bit headache inducing felt necessary.
When he hears the echoing taps of someone walking towards him he’s about ready to let out a sigh. The notion that it was time to get back to work taking over as he turns and stops at the sight of Leo. It only being his brother has his shoulders relaxing a bit as his eyes trail towards the gift.
“For me?” It sounds rather stupid even to his own ears, but it brings a gracious smile to his lips as he takes the chess board into his hands. “Thank you, Leo. If we are both free later we’ll have to play a game.”
Sometimes I think about how I really love getting to write fatherly figures (or even elder brothers like Xander). Whether they’re just that way canonically, or I make an AU/verse where they are a father/father figure. And perhaps this’ll get a bit depressing, but I think it’s just because I think it’s so sweet. Of course it’s definitely that way with mother’s too. But coming from a family where it just feels like I don’t have that with my dad anymore? I love getting to write that through my characters.
That’s not to say my dad is completely awful. But the emotional abuse is...a lot. The frustration is a constant. Feeling like he’s not listening is an every day occurrence. So I see and admire father’s that are super supportive and proud of their kids (and their families). Who want to understand them and be there for them. It just really warms my heart. So I love getting to write those things. It’s not often I get to, but I’m always super grateful and ecstatic every time I can.

“You have heard correctly. I assume you heard as such from Corrin?” It wouldn’t be surprising with how close they were. But it wouldn’t be impossible to have heard it from any of his other siblings either. Still, a fond smile finds its way onto his face as he gives a brief nod of his head. “Thank you, Kaze.”
So apparently I will end Ryoma’s whole career as a birthday gift to Xander?? Sorry lobster man.

“Father, Happy Birthday!”
“I…made you something.” He presented a painting of his father that he made. “I hope you like it.”
A smile is present upon his face, and when he takes the painting into his hands it only seems to grow.
“I didn’t know you could paint. This is wonderful.” He studies the painting for a moment before going to wrap an arm around his son in a bit of a hug. “Thank you, Siebert. I will hang this up immediately.”

"ooh, lord xander! there you are! i've been looking all over for you." peri was excited, surprisingly, for innocent reasons. she held a plate of cupcakes in her hands — assuredly created with nothing but love. this must've been the reason she was so preoccupied in the morning. nevertheless, this was something she hardly regretted; considering the huge smile plastered against her face. "peri made all these sweets to celebrate your birthday. let's eat them together!" (hi! :3 hope this was okay!)
At her entrance, Xander is immediately looking up from the piece of parchment he had been scribbling on. It was more of a to-do list written in his scratchy, yet looped, writing. So he doesn’t mind having to pause as he puts his quill back in the inkwell to instead sit back in his seat. A brow is raised as she all but bounds over to his desk.
“I have been here most of the morning. I didn’t think I would be so hard to find.” There’s a bit of amusement in his tone as he speaks. As his retainer he suspected she would’ve known his daily schedule, but at the mention of her having spent time baking he supposes it’s reasonable she didn’t. It always warms a part of him to know she was indulging in something other than bloodlust, especially when it came to her cooking. She always was a master in the kitchen to the surprise of everyone else, and even Xander at one point.
So despite being impartial to sweets, he doesn’t waste another second as he reaches over his desk to take one of the cupcakes into his hand. As expected it looks perfect ––– not even a speck of icing out of place. He pulls the wrapper off of it and carefully sets it in the waste bin beside his desk before taking a bite. Then, as expected once again, it tastes wonderful.
“This is delicious, Peri. You never disappoint.” He takes another bite of the sweet and, with a little embarrassment, quickly wipes off a bit of the icing that sticks to his nose.
You know, I don’t think I’ve ever talked about shipping all that much when it comes to Xander. Like sure, I have some ships I like for him. But he’s one of my muses where I’m not all that concerned with it?? That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t ship him with someone if he forms that kind of connection with someone or it just sorta ends up happening! But it doesn’t feel like a priority. Not that it ever really is, but I never feel the urge or want to write shippy stuff as much with him??
Of course I’d love to at some point. Cause out of like the one and a half years of writing him I don’t believe I’ve ever had a partner to write that stuff with. But I’m just really content writing him being an older brother/fatherly figure.

" happy birthday, milord ! " laslow parrots his greeting, smile bright and wide. a small box is pushed into the prince's hand, with the contents containing a hand woven bracelet, handmade with a cheap colored glass charm within.
An expression of gratitude is on the tip of his tongue only to be halted as the small box is pressed into his hand. For a moment he stares at it with a curious expression. Gods know just what is in the box given his retainer’s questionable reputation. Yet he knows that Laslow generally means well, and eventually he relents with a hint of a smile.
“You didn’t have to get me anything.” Still, he couldn’t just hand it back. That would be utterly rude even for him. So he takes care as he pries the top off to reveal the bracelet within. For a moment his eyes widen as he takes it into his own hand and puts the box securely between his arm and side. “This is unlike anything I have ever seen.”
Whether the implication of that statement was good or bad he doesn’t comment further on it. Instead, he pauses for a moment before taking the time to slip the accessory on. It looks strange on him, but he continues to smile nonetheless as his attention is brought back to the other. “Thank you, Laslow.”

Sometimes I think about how Xander really doesn’t get to do things for himself. He never really does things because he necessarily enjoys them. But instead he’s always doing stuff out of obligation because he’s prince and first in line to the Nohrian throne. He cares deeply for his siblings, but he can’t do much with them because he overworks himself to make sure they’re protected.
He just doesn’t get time to do the things he wants to do, and so I think he deserves a break on his birthday (even if he won’t take one).
HOW MUCH CAN YOU CHANGE AND GET AWAY WITH IT, BEFORE YOU TURN INTO SOMEONE ELSE, BEFORE IT’S SOME KIND OF MURDER ? DIFFICULT, TO BE CONFRONTED WITH THE FACT OF YOURSELF.

Hinoka's face is quiet red as she avoided eye contact, having sent a letter inviting Xander to a little dinner party she put together for his birthday. It was the least she could do since he had planned a party for her previously.
It wasn’t unusual for Xander’s schedule to be packed despite it being his birthday. There were still meetings to attend and paperwork to fill out. He even still did his usual morning training routine, for even if he missed a day he feared he’d become a bit rusty. So he was quite surprised to find a letter written by Hinoka’s hand sitting on top of his desk.
Yet the letter inside only proved to tug a small smile at the corner of his lips. An invitation to a dinner party wasn’t foreign to him, but it being for his birthday? It made something unfamiliar flutter in his chest at the thought. Usually it was only his siblings or his retainers pestering him to have some leniency on his birthday. Typically their requests were to take the day off or do some grand plan they had concocted. It was rather ridiculous, but he always knew they meant well even if he had to turn them down. But a simple dinner party? He was certain he could make the time.
So when he passes by Hinoka in the hall his slight smile returns as he pulls out the letter amidst the stack of paper in his arms. “Thank you for the invitation. I will be there.”
