United Airlines is soaring to new heights with its commitment to passenger safety. The airline recently unveiled its innovative "Safety in Motion" video, a captivating and informative experience designed to engage even the most seasoned travelers. This unique video marks a significant departure from traditional safety presentations, offering a visually dynamic and interactive approach to educating passengers on critical procedures. United Airlines A Collaborative Effort for Enhanced Safety Safety is paramount at United Airlines. "Safety is the foundation of everything we do at United," emphasizes Sasha Johnson, Vice President of Corporate Safety for United. This dedication extends beyond cutting-edge technology and aircraft maintenance. It encompasses comprehensive crew training and clear passenger communication in the event of an emergency. The airline's commitment to passenger empowerment is evident in the "Safety in Motion" video, providing passengers with the knowledge and confidence to act appropriately in unexpected situations. The video's development was a collaborative effort, involving close cooperation with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) throughout the entire process. This ensured the content strictly adhered to all FAA regulations, with multiple checkpoints established during production. From script review and storyboard development to final video approval in March 2024, meticulous attention to detail guaranteed the video would effectively communicate safety protocols while meeting FAA guidelines. A Captivating Journey Through Safety "Safety in Motion" lives up to its name by employing a captivating and interactive approach. The video follows the path of a ball as it navigates a series of airplane-inspired scenarios within a life-sized, sequential reaction machine. Passengers witness real United employees demonstrating essential safety procedures as the ball rolls and bounces through various set-ups, including: Emergency exits Snack carts and beverage service Seatbelts and windows Passenger seating Directional signage This innovative concept not only educates passengers but also subtly highlights the intricate teamwork that goes into every United Airlines flight. "The safest safety video is one that passengers actively watch," explains Maggie Schmerin, Chief Advertising Officer for United. The creative team aimed to capture passengers' attention – regardless of age, background, or travel experience. By replacing static images with a dynamic and engaging narrative, the video ensures passengers retain crucial safety information. Here's a glimpse into the production process: 171 Customized Versions: To cater to United's diverse fleet, the video was adapted into 171 customized versions. These variations account for the airline's 8 different aircraft types, 20 distinct seat configurations within those aircraft, and 18 languages. A 10-Month Journey: The creative process for the video spanned ten months. Initial development began in June 2023, followed by filming in October 2023. The remaining five months were dedicated to meticulous editing, translation, and securing final FAA approval. A Collaborative Effort: The project involved a team of industry leaders. United partnered with their creative agency of record, 72andSunny, production partner 1stAveMachine, and award-winning director Karim Zariffa to execute the complex camera work required for the video. A Touch of Tradition: A nod to United's heritage is present in the video's soundtrack. The familiar melody of George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" remains a consistent element, having been featured in many previous United safety videos. United's Unwavering Commitment to Safety "Safety in Motion" serves as a testament to United's unwavering commitment to passenger safety. However, the video is just one facet of the airline's comprehensive safety program. United invests heavily in crew training, ensuring its employees are equipped with the knowledge and skills to handle any situation. Regular Training Regimens: Flight attendants undergo refresher training every 18 months, while pilots participate in simulator-based training with instructors and evaluators every nine months. These ongoing training programs keep crews sharp and prepared for any flight conditions. State-of-the-Art Training Facilities: United recently expanded its Flight Training Center in Denver, solidifying its position as the world's largest facility of its kind. This expansion includes a new 150,000-square-foot building and additional training simulators, further enhancing pilot training capacity. Similarly, United's Inflight Training Center in Houston has undergone upgrades with new classrooms, advanced cabin and door trainers, and a cutting-edge aquatic center specifically designed for water landing evacuation training.
