PSA for my fellow emetophobes!
If you’re going to watch the movie Stand By Me, make sure you watch it with someone else who is not emetophobic, ideally someone who has seen the movie before, but it’s not absolutely necessary. When the main character starts telling a story about a boy competing in an eating contest, have the other person pause and mute the movie, so that you can leave the room. Then have the other person watch the next five or so minutes with the sound off until they get past the end of the story, before they call you back in. (Make sure they are absolutely sure it is over bc it only gets worse as the story progresses!) This should hopefully save you from a lot of anxiety!!
Additionally, if you’re emetophobic also DO NOT watch Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life. As far as I know, there’s no neat avoidable scene like there is in Stand By Me, so just avoid it altogether unless you know someone who literally has the movie memorized and can pause it every time a certain character shows up. (For context, these scenes are so gross that they were what gave the creators problems getting the movie past censorship laws, even though the film literally has a song about jerking off in it, so if you have any doubts it’s best not to take the risk.)
Even if your not emetophobic, I’d really appreciate people reblogging this to spread it around bc I don’t think there’s a specific tag for “hey don’t consume this piece of media if you have x phobia.” (if there is someone please let me know so I can tag this.) Thanks a bunch!!
