La Ferme du Pere Castor Helene Guertik detail from her 1939 book for the Albums du Pere Castor series, lithographed on stone. It was one of the more popular of the series, reprinted several times, up until the 1960s, and translated too. The Pursuit of Knowledge Susan Einzig one of her illustrations from Tom’s Midnight Garden by Philippa Pearce. Einzig, first Suzanne, then Susan, was one of the last arrivals via the Kindertransport trains arriving here in 1939. During the war, between working in factories, she autolithographed two children’s books for Transatlantic Arts and post war taught at Camberwell. She was a great friend of John Minton and their illustrations reflect their closeness in style.
