a lot of clint hate feels performative to me just in general. i think because the fanon version of clint is some incel stalker that hates women and thinks emily owes him something and that mischaracterization of him is so prominent, people feel obligated to constantly let others know they think clint is creepy in order to not be seen as creepy themselves or enabling stalker behavior.
it makes it extremely difficult to talk about clint at all because people seem to have a made-up version of him in their heads and project that onto the actual character and people who like him. when you play the actual heart event most people point to as him stalking emily, it's just him freezing up from social anxiety and hiding in a bush in order to avoid his crush.
this especially pisses me off as someone who has been stalked. i know what creepy men are like. i've had men threaten me online, threaten me in-person, try to follow me to my house, try to find out where i live online, and block evade me just to keep harassing me. clint is not that.
additionally, a lot of people who misinterpret clint in this way also tend to misinterpret emily as being too naive to "see clint for what he really is" or whatever when in reality if you actually interact with emily at all, she's incredibly perceptive when it comes to the content of other people's character. so it's telling that she's on good terms with clint despite him being awkward around her. she doesn't need you to "protect" her from someone she's literally friends with.

Is it me, or is Haley (the blonde one with long hair) the least wisest out of the bachelorettes?
1. Falls in love with boys ALL THE TIME at first glance at them (Regardless if they are evil or not, like dumb jock Alex, while actually moral people, like the Farmer, are cast aside like pigs) compared to the others
2. Maru and Penny actually are COMPETENT at their jobs as a nurse and a teacher AND as kind natural community caregivers compared to Haley. Haley seems to have a bad track record of neglecting her duties, both in the photography field, domestic caregiving, and did I mention RELATIONSHIPS WITH GOOD MEN?
3. Emily in the Heart Events is shown to actually be INTELLEGENT beneath all that crazy, since she tailors well. (I think Leah is good at her intelligence artistically as well) Is Haley good at her studies compared to the other two? (My guess is no).
4. Abigail (and Leah…to an extent) is street-smart enough not to fall for traps or evil men. Haley just hits on anyone that’s hot or rich or muscular and falls for a lot of dumb stuff. (In the six-heart event, she freakin loses the bracelet THAT WAS PASSED DOWN BY HER GREAT GRANDMOTHER!! WHAT THE HELL.)
Anyways, what are your thoughts, is Haley one of the least intelligent bachelorettes of the game?

Sending this in on nations women’s day yay, and in honors of that, WOMEN IN STARDEW VALLEY ARE INTERESTING. Y’ALL IUST DON’T CARE ENOUGH TO LOOK. Hayley has one of the best character arcs in the game but, oh no, she’s “mean” but Shane’s just fine!! (not a dig on Shane, love him, just some of his fans) Maru can be funny asf if you take the time to READ HER DIALOG.
Jodi is one of my favorite characters by far. She loves her sons and husband but also wishes she had more freedom in her life. She’s just a kind soul who cares about her family, just wishes she could’ve had it a different way. Robin has an up and down relationship with her husband which results in a complicated one with her son. IT’S AN INTERESTING DYNAMIC. SHE IS NOT BORING BECAUSE SHE IS A WIFE AND MOTHER.
Penny has her whole Pam thing and not to mention, lots of quirks of her own. Like being bad at cooking which results in some really funny scenes. While I am not a fan of her, Caroline, has interesting family dynamics. And on that topic Abigail is more than a “manic pixie girl” god forbid a woman be into the occult. Again, she has really interesting dynamics. Even though her family dynamics are tense, she still says “I’m wearing our matching family sweater under my coat… Don’t tell Dad!” or something like that. She clearly still loves her family despite the ups complications. And she has a whole friend circle with Sam and Sebastian.
Emily is amazing. She has so many interest and quirks. And her relationship with her filled with so much thought. They’re so different, they argue and tease each other, but they love each other. They are all they have. Leah has a whole life before Pelican Town. She has dreams, hopes, aspirations, messy ex’s. Listen to me and LISTEN TO ME CLOSE. JUST BECAUSE A WOMEN HAS ROMANCE IN HER LIFE. DOES NOT MAKE HER BORING.
And then you got sweet granny Evelyn. Oh my Yoba, I love this woman so much. She loves her husband and grandson so much. Always tending to plants, making cookies for everyone. I would die for this woman. And then, on the opposite end, Jas. She is such a little sweet heart who deserved so much better in life. Her dynamic with Shane is so special. And her friendship with Vincent in Leo. Ugh. There is so much to this kid and she gets so much shit for being “creepy” THATS A CHILD.
Let’s move onto her god-aunt (?) Marnie. I will say it again and I will say it again loudly. JUST BECAUSE A WOMAN HAS ROMANCE IN HER LIFE DOES NOT MAKE HER BORING. Her relationship with Lewis is such an interesting part to the valley that adds so much drama and depth to these characters. The fact she takes Shane and Jas in, the fact she cares and worry’s so much for Shane. The way she cares for her animals.. ugh. I love her.
Moving onto our out of town girlies, we got Sandy and Birdy. Sandy is such a mystery, I love her. I do wish we got to know more about her, but her mystery is part of her charm. She’s just so fun to talk to. I wish I had more to say but unfortunately I only have around 5 hearts with her due to not going to the desert to much. And then Birdy… Her storyline is so tragic. I really wished we got to behind her. Her decision to watch over her husband’s bones is so UGH. No one should force her to move on. She has made her choice and it’s powerful.
And I think I’ve covered all Stardew woman. So maybe take from this rant… to read dialog. Because these woman are strong, flawed, and amazing.

Someone tried to convince me that Clint is problematic because Emily is actually a 15 year old.
.
emily probably does coke right
.
i hate talking about clint discourse but the straight up misinformation going on here is insane and now people are being misogynistic towards emily
yes he does have loser and incel like lines. and respectfully some of you all love ignoring the point so i’m going to put my takes on the lines
“I should save up and buy a computer.
Maybe I can find a girlfriend on the 'internet'... What? Don't judge me! Not everyone is a cool, attractive, socially-adept farmer, you know! What's a guy like me supposed to do? *Groan*”
take: i’m sorry. this just makes him sound like a loser. that’s it. that’s the nicest way i can put it
“Emily started helping me without any provocation... does that mean something? *gulp*”
take: i’m trying not to add to much of his crush lines here, but it’s a very common and annoying experience for woman when me assume they’re doing something out of romantic love at the most common interactions. in fact this line of thinking has gotten me stalked so 😭
“I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow... Maybe the mermaid show will calm my nerves? But what if they think I'm ogling... *gulp*”
take: i don’t hold this one to much against him. he could simply want to see the show but because he’s an unconventionally attractive man he’ll be considered a creep for going which does happen irl with men being perceived as weird for having “girly” interest. still i don’t hold it against people who get the wrong idea from this dialog
(these next lines are in heart events so they’re not in the wiki. i’m typing them out by hand instead of copy and pasting so apologies if i get something wrong)
“I have terrible luck with women, [Farmer]… *sigh.* I’m a nice guy if you get to know me, I swear!”
take: “I’m a nice guy” is literally the trademark incel phrase 😭😭 do i think he’s jus awkward and doesn’t mean much harm? yes. but he obviously makes woman uncomfortable
NOTE: in this heart event you have to TELL him to treat women the same as men
ok time to address the infamous bush scene. no he was not stalking her, he got nervous and hid behind the bush. clint isn’t a murderous stalker.
i have however seen the point made that clint takes emily’s rejection as very mature and doesn’t hold it against her and emily is the DEVIL and blah blah blah
BUT HE DOES?? HE DOES TAKE IT HARD??
emily’s 8 heart event
“I understand. I’ll leave now… congrats, [Farmer].”
take: at the end of the day, he does see emily as a prize to be won
“I think Clint's mad at me. He never looks at me anymore... I always thought we were friends.”
FINAL TAKE/TLDR: Clint is not a murderous stalker. HOWEVER he does have some incel like tendencies and does see women, especially Emily, as some prize to be won
Some of his fans like to act like he has zero character flaws and is just some perfect lovable guy who has done NOTHING wrong EVER in his life. And to that I ask you all… why? Character flaws make them interesting. You can like Clint but please stop getting buttheart when people call out very real parts of his character (though I do agree people blow stuff out of proportion sometimes)
LOVE CLINT /SRS, HAVE YOUR FUN! but stop harassing woman when they say they’re uncomfortable with some aspects of their character (AND STOP BEING REALLY WEIRD ABOUT EMILY PLS. SHE IS NOT THE DEVIL FOR NOT BEING INTERESTED IN HIM.)
this post is not supposed to be rude to clint lovers. i’m just trying to point out there are flaws to his character (which as said doesn’t equal a bad thing, it makes an interesting character) and it’s odd how people are so quick to write them off to make him so quirky lovable bear who hasn’t done anything wrong ever in his entire life

I'm a witchy girl kind of in the same vein as Emily, though I consider myself a fledgling rather than actually experienced with this stuff. Here's the caveat about crystals and incense and spells and all that: if that stuff helps you feel better about things, it's fine. The world's going to hell in a handbasket and doing stuff that makes you happy is getting more important by the day. But DO NOT use it as a substitute for seeing a doctor and getting medicine. Emily reads to me as one of those types who do that and try to parrot essential oils or things like that as actual substitutes for genuine medicine used by medical professionals. That ain't safe.
