She uses the tough exterior and biting remarks as a shield because she's been hurt too many times in the past and doesn't want to let people in to do it again.

Once upon a time she wanted to be a world famous artist, but the older she got, the more she realized she absolutely did not want the attention or the demands of that kind of life. She doesn’t really want to do anything other than be happy and do whatever her heart tells her to.
