#49 - But, I said I love you.
Sunk into the oversized armchair in their living room, Veronica continued to poke Logan in his side, waiting for him to respond. They were snuggled together under the luxurious blanket Veronica had insisted they take with them at the end of their last staycation at the Hotel del Coronado.
“You’re not gonna stop until I admit defeat, are you?” he asked with a resigned sigh.
He let his head back fall back against the chair when she shook her head no, a mischievous smile spreading across her face. It was obvious Veronica wasn’t going to stop pestering him until she got her way.
“But, I said I love you. Doesn’t that count for anything?” he whined, rubbing his hands across his face. They’d been under the blanket for the last ninety minutes watching a documentary; the last thing he wanted to do was exit the cocoon of warmth they’d created together.
“Actually, what you said was, ‘You know I would do anything for you because I love you, but can you please do it?’ Which in Logan speak, really means ‘I’m too much of a lazy ass to get up and do it myself.’ Seriously, it’s been five years. I’ve got all your excuses down, buddy.”
Veronica pinched his cheek and gave it a condescending pat, before pulling the blanket off his legs with a laugh. Unprepared for the cold air, Logan let out a yelp before lunging at Veronica in an attempt to take back what she’d stolen from him. Letting out a shriek, Veronica jumped off the chair in an attempt to escape, taking the entire blanket with her.
“Well, look at that, sugarpuss. Now that you’re up, why don’t you save us all some trouble and take Pony out yourself?” he mused as he stood, taking the few steps forward until they were chest to chest.
He wrapped his arms around his petite girlfriend, pulling her as close as possible to him, still completely wrapped up to her shoulders in the damn blanket. Their eyes met and Veronica gave him a lazy smile, the one he adored the most. It was love, contentment, and the purest form of herself, all rolled together.
Bending down to kiss her, he was hindered by her hand coming up to his cheek before their lips touched.
“I’ll tell you what. Give me..ten minutes, and I’ll make taking Pony out worth your while,” Veronica crooned, brushing her thumb across his parted lips.
Smirking at the thought of what constituted “worth his while”, Logan nipped at her wrist before pressing his forehead against hers.
“Oh, really? Well then, I suppose I must accept my fate and get going, hmmm?” He said, his voice husky.
“Mmmm. Go now and maybe there’ll be a surprise waiting for you under this blanket when you get back.” she whispered seductively. Loving her playfulness, Logan leaned in for a kiss before being thwarted again.
Pushing herself out of his embrace before he could react, Veronica began to step back towards the staircase leading up to their bedroom. Frowning at the loss of contact, Logan took his cue and grabbed the leash from Pony’s basket, whistling once.
Bounding into the living room, she made her way to the door and stood, tail wagging as she waited for Logan. Shaking his head at the realization Veronica had just seduced him into caving in, again, he turned to head for the door when Veronica cleared her throat loudly.
“Report to the bedroom in T-minus ten minutes, Lieutenant! That’s an order!” she barked out with a laugh.
Logan beamed as he turned back and saluted the love of his life, who was smiling back at him.
