September - College/University AU
It’s back-to-school time! Okay, so a) that was probably last month and b) this is the weirdest autumn in most people’s living memory. But it’s still a damn good excuse to share some of my favorite University AUs.
Learning Curve by @callioope
Canon-verse AU, 40k, 4 chapters
Once upon a time, Jyn and Cassian were childhood friends(ish). Years later, they both end up at Yavin University, and both find themselves flustered and dismayed to be falling for each other. Especially after what happened the last time . . .
While most of our rebelcaptain stories are technically canon-verse AUs, this puts us in an even more alternate version where the Empire never rose to power. You get Jyn and Cassian both with two living parents and a much more happy backstory. But they're still fundamentally themselves and it's a treat watching them fall in love.
For a Good Time Call by @gayrefrain
Modern AU, 28k, 26 chapters
In a drunken game of truth or dare, Jyn writes her phone number on the wall of a student bar. After a barrage of dick pics and gross messages, she's on the cusp of getting a whole new number. That is, until someone texts her with a random message about goldfish. Just like that, she's falling into a texting relationship with a guy who seems to get her better than anyone she knows.
Did you need a smile today? We all do, probably. This is the story for you. This is a cheerful rom-com of a story that whizzes by. Even though there's a certain amount of miscommunication (guess who's her new TA, and guess how long it takes them to figure it out), it's sure to leave you happy.
Twenty-Something series by @imgoingtocrash
Modern AU, 14.4k total, 3 one-shots and 1 4-parter
When some idiot sets off the alarm at one in the morning, during her shower, Jyn is forced to stand outside in the cold with wet hair. It's not all bad, though. At least the guy who gallantly offered up his coat is pretty cute.
The sequence of events in these connected one-shots, from the wee-hours fire alarm to crashing on the couch due to being locked out, is classic student-apartment shenanigans around these two awkwardly stumbling into love. The author also recently added a 4-part story with Bodhi, Kay, Baze, and Chirrut all sharing their perspective on this new relationship.
As always, if you’re one of the authors featured and would like me to change anything about the way I’ve listed your story, please drop me a line via PM or ask and I would be pleased to edit.
Next month’s theme is Kidfic! If you have a perfect story to rec, drop me a line via PM or ask with the title, a link to the story, and maybe a few words about why you liked it, and I’ll include it with your handle.
Happy reading! Love, @mosylufanfic
