‘ Rowan - big news

Rowan had expected something like this to happen, ever since she’d discovered her uncle had been a criminal, she’d been in hiding from him and the others ever since, too hurt by the fact they went against everything she’d ever believed in, everything she’d ever believed them to be. But news of him being arrested had filtered filtered through to blind pal, and thus to her in the small apartment he shared with Kevin, her crutch throughout all of this. She’d been umming and ahhing about going to visit him, was it the right thing to do? She’d kept her distance for so long, disguised as someone else, but it was time, she decided, to put old pain to bed and begin anew. Ad thus, she sat in the waiting room, chewing her lip as one hand gripped that of her boyfriend, the other stroking her swollen stomach. It would be a shock for her uncle, this much she knew, but it was now or never, when her name was called she started in surprise, face blanching slightly. Kevin squeezed her hand, offering affirmations that she could do this, and she took a deep steadying breath. Standing, she brushed down the front of her dress and smiled down at the man she loved, who nodded at her comfortingly before kissing her hand as she detached it from his, waddling across the foyer towards the room where she would come face to face with the relative she’ been evading for so long. The door was opened for her and she peeped in, seeing that familiar face sat on the opposite side of a table, wrists bound in handcuffs and expression stern. When their eyes met, she saw the surprise register on his face and she half smiled, still a little wary of the situation. It was too late to back out now, however, and she stepped into the room, making her way towards that chair that seemed an age away. She walked for what seemed like hours before reaching the seat, pulling it out with a loud, awkward screech and plopping herself down into it. She was a little out of breath, she was only around 6 months pregnant, but with triplets she found herself larger than a usual pregnancy and thus tired easily. Hand automatically resting atop the bump, she smiled at the man opposite her blankly, fingers drumming comfortingly across her own skin as she searched his face. “Hello Uncle Simon, long time no see.”
