Adam had waited all day to see that face through the bakery windows. He had been told he had a face for the front of the business, but he spent most of his time in the back decorating cake orders. He was terrible at keeping a till anyways– math wasn’t anything he was ever good at. Honestly, baking made him feel good. It was a way to express himself in colors, and shapes and sweetness. It was perfect for him to find that calling in life. It was even more perfect because from the back of the house, he could check on his mobile device for text messages from Sun (KAL? MIN? WHAT HIS LAST NAME IN SELKIE IM WHEEZING). Sometimes he’d check instagram, snapchat, facebook, twitter, anything to check up on the other.
Sun made him feel crazy, but not in a bad way. He made Adam’s head spin in dizziness from smiling way too much. He made his heart beat abnormally fast in more that one way, and he made it as though he were swept off his feet any time they’d hold hands. And while it was mostly through Adam’s initiation at first, the baker was starting to notice a change in things. It was a good change. It turned crazy into hopeful. It turned delusions into reality. It caused Adam to think even more optimistically than he already had been. And it felt amazing. He was happy.
Finally happy. He’d finally overcome the clumsiness and awkwardness that was his own being, and he was finally, or so it felt, accepted for who he was.
Adam knew he wasn’t anyone’s top choice, not with his bird brain, no, but the words that spilled over Sun’s mouth made him feel so, as he pulled off an apron and beamed on over. He hardly had time to announce a shift break, because he was too busy shuffling around with a small cupcake box in his hands. Coordination was… not his strongest suit. Luckily Sun would be there to catch him in his arms, once he lunged for a hug.
“ Hiiiii. I made you something! “ He extended a cupcake box. “ Let’s sit over here.” He reached for a spare hand to take, and began to pull in the front corner of the cafe.
There it was-- that smile that he always loved seeing. It was the one thing that could brighten any of his days. It may as well be better at lightening his mood than even coffee could, at this point. He couldn’t help the happy, ecstatic giggle of a laugh that fell from his lips when Adam lunged for his arms. Yes, he catch. He was happy to catch him, always. He squeezed his arms around the other boy tightly, making sure, though, to not squish the box that he had seen in his hands.
He took a moment to breathe in all that was Adam Lee, which could easily be confused with the scents that were just around the bakery, but he was so used to relating it all to the boy in his arms, that the two things became synonymous with each other. Could he even dare to look at a cupcake ever again without thinking of this boy? Most likely, no.
The moments of embrace were over all too soon though, but welcome, even, as it put that smiling face back into his view. Yet again, the happiness on Adam’s face, and the happiness that he felt churned at the pit in his stomach for his own fears of his words to come. He smiled, still, happily, gratefully at the box, and to the boy handing him the box.
He sighed as his hand was held, and he was pulled towards a table, unable to stop the words that came spilling out of his mouth. “You’re perfect.” It came out in a breath of air, and it caused even the mightiest Sun Min to flush at what he’d said. “I-- thank you.” The pit of a grim reminder continued to sit in his chest, but he continued to smile. “How’s your day been?”
