Book haul for the monster romance series by Emma Hamm. I preordered these MONTHS ago before I even read the books and THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL! This is a post apocalyptic standalone series that takes place far in the future where humans can no longer live on the surface of the planet. They take refuge under the sea and build massive underwater cities that disrupt the ecosystems and sea life, including the massive creatures called undines. Each book follows a different pair of human female and male undine who fall in love against all odds. Emma Hamm’s books are available to be read on KU and she has a shop on her website to buy books directly from her. Happy reading 😊
Two commissions for Emma Hamm's Deep Waters series! These are my favorite books, so I was super excited to create some illustrations for Emma. Highly recommend if you're a lover of mermen and Bioshock!
A Spark so Bright by Emma Hamm
This was a beautiful addition to an already fantastic series. Rose’s story was handled with so much grace and sensitivity, my heart absolutely broke for her; but never in a way that went too far and made me want to close the book. This could have been fumbled so easily, but instead it might be my favourite of the series. Seeing her come out of her shell, learn to accept the world, learn her own strength and the truth of her power? Amazing.
The only bit I wish was given a little more time was the gap between her being kicked from her own dream world, and rushing headfirst into life, but I didn’t think ‘gosh that’s quick’ at the time, I’m only really thinking that now as I look back.
The romance was so lovely, it felt real and I was rooting for it all along. I found myself absolutely yelling at his obliviousness, at times, and the way he kept speaking for her when she absolutely didn’t need someone to - but he didn’t know she wasn’t wandering, and desperately wanted to keep Rose safe.
When things do happen?? Our man’s an eager giver, enjoys a feast, and I’ll leave it at that 🔥
