does emma's birthday hold importance to her? how would she prefer to celebrate it—fancy food, or cozied at home, etc.? does she like big or small gatherings for her birthday, or does she prefer her birthday go unacknowledged?

Emma's birthday is May 25. She's a Gemini (Leo Moon, Capricorn Rising) in Western zodiac and a Water Rooster (Hen?) in Chinese zodiac!

Her birthdays throughout her life have been hit and miss. When she was a child, they were fun of course, but in her late teens and throughout her 20s, her birthdays were often days where tragic coincidences occurred or something tragic happened shortly after. So she gets nervous about birthdays but also, at the same time, gets excited if people want to celebrate it. Her preference is a mix of having some peaceful time at home but also having friends come over to celebrate with her, though nothing CRAZY like over 10 or 15 people!

Since her birthday is a day after the Matsuno brothers, I don't think they'd LET her let it go unacknowledged LMAO! I feel like they'd want to share their birthday leftovers with her and use things they had already set up for their own birthday for hers'. Aside from dating Karamatsu, she has close friendships with Osomatsu and Ichimatsu, so I can imagine they probably all try to rally the brothers for it (well, Osomatsu does at least). Her favorite for her birthday is ice cream cake or cheesecake, and pizza for the savory option!

I also like to imagine that since Emma and Karamatsu have their birthdays so close, they really enjoy celebrating their birthdays with each other too!

Finally decided to do a more comprehensive "bio" thingy on Karamatsu and Emma, goes more in-depth into their personalities and stuff than the pinned post. Also included a yumeship bingo for the cover because... Idk what else to put haha. I'm just throwing everything I got at the wall right now.

Karamatsu is the second eldest brother of the Matsuno sextuplets. He is an unemployed NEET but does hope to someday be a musician... Or an actor... Or a fashion designer... He's got a lot of dreams. He’s pretty easy to tell apart from his brothers due to his thicker eyebrows and almost perpetually confident-looking expression. He also wears sunglasses quite often and is invested in his “Perfect Fashion”, a term he coined for his flashier, more “Westernized” style of clothing. He’s hearty, loving, flamboyant, good-natured and eager to please everyone and avoid conflict. However, he’s also dim, gullible, naive, completely out of touch, and has trouble being truthful/vocal about his feelings, especially regarding negative emotions like anger or sadness. He can be a bit of a coward when it comes to sticking up for himself or making his voice heard, and some might even argue that his bravado is a cover for a far more meek individual. He often gets mislabelled as a narcissist due to his tendency to make clothes and crafts with his face on them or because he sometimes admires himself in the mirror, but in truth, his behavior is far more in line with being histrionic. If anything, he's the opposite of a narcissist to a fault. He’s also quick to anger with his older brother, Osomatsu, and at the idea that people would call him "exclusive" or "selfish".

Emma is a foreigner from the US (Chicago specifically) currently working in Japan as a QA tester and freelance English tutor. Despite the two of them dating, she seems to be the complete opposite of Karamatsu (at first...). Whereas Karamatsu is gullible, flamboyant, and eager to please, Emma is sharp, subdued, and socially anxious. Whereas Karamatsu struggles with telling people “no”, Emma is... A little too quick to tell people off, almost always without meaning to and often in a panicked way. Despite her outward appearance of drab, loose-fitting gray clothing, tired eyes, and blank expressions, she’s actually a total spitfire, making her stances and opinions on things all too clear and wearing her heart on her sleeve. As a result, she tends to upset people quite easily due to her intensity and bluntness, though it’s always by accident. She’s a genuinely kind person and has good intentions and hates the idea of upsetting people but often trips up due to her social blunders and panicking. She tends to worry a lot about whether or not she’s “likable” or “a good person” due to the numerous bridges she’s accidentally burned over the years and negative feedback. She also tends to be incredibly down on herself and worries she's not "much to look at". However, she’s also incredibly intelligent, determined, passionate and cares immensely for Karamatsu, who she feels helps bring out her better side, "the girl she longs to be". She also has an extreme love for sharks and the ocean and often feels like a "shark" herself (misunderstood by the public).

TLDR;

A lot of people can't stand either of them for various reasons (despite their desires for connection) so they found solace and comfort in each other, LMAO

Truthfully, I'm not even sure where to begin with talking about my silly things here because there is a LOT of stuff I've made over the years (lots of KarMa, lots of matsus in general, lots of AU art) and idk how to go about posting it all but... Some other random tidbits about me I guess!

Karamatsu is my favorite of course but I'm a HEAVY Osomatsu defender and he is my fave brother to rp as and write for so please try to be nice to him around me (... if possible, LMAO)

Though Emma has headphones in a lot of her art (and she still does wear them sometimes), they aren't required anymore and she is seen much more often without them now, sort of like Karamatsu and his sunglasses, I like to think of it like that in terms of whether or not they're being worn

I'm not the biggest fan of canon/canon ships unless it's like... TotoNyaa because I do genuinely like their dynamic but for the most part I only ship mine and other people's yumeships and try to ignore canon/canon stuff, sorry canon/canon enjoyers djhgss

I've been an Ososan fan for 10 years now; first 4 years I shipped Karamatsu with an OC named Emi but now ship him with my self insert character, Emma, instead. Emi doesn't get used as much nowadays/isn't shipped with any of the Matsus (she's canon lesbian-leaning now), but if people are really curious about her/there's a demand, I can bring her back/talk about her, she still technically exists

I have a HUGE LIST of AUs with extensive information and google docs that I've made in the hopes people would be inspired and want to join them/play in them! I will make a proper post about it eventually but for now just... Know I have that and feel free to ask me about it in dms or askbox or something

I'm happy to take requests to draw people's yumeships! I am always happy to do sketch requests or draw whatever little ideas people send me in askbox (I get art block VERY frequently and don't have as much output as I'd like in terms of art)

I'm not sure how to best summarize their relationship but they are very much "opposites attract" and very in love with each other/super sweet and healing with each other. Peacock and Peahen energy I suppose. I love getting asks about them but only if people want to.

As of Season 4, they are both 32 years old but have been with each other since Season 1 (about 10 years) in terms of canon/original universe.

I've been self inserting Emma with Kara for about 6 or 7 years now and I tried to include as much of the most updated refs as I could (there is a lot of older content of her with my old name that I'm trying to edit to be up to date still).

Emma is shipped with Karamatsu only, no other characters or ocs or anything and she is monogamous. She is platonically closest with Osomatsu and Ichimatsu but is also friends with Totoko.

She doesn't have many friends outside of the Matsuno brothers and Totoko right now but I hope to change that by having her interact with other yumes!

Hi Shark, I'll give you an ask from me. Which canon character annoys Emma? And which canon character does Emma consider her best friend?

Hmm... My first instinct was to say Choromatsu for the "is annoyed by" but that's not really true. While she likes Choro the least of the Matsuno brothers, she still likes him, and there are canon characters she genuinely hates.

I would say her most hated/the one that annoys her the most is Uchikawa (the guy at the Matsu's high school reunion who talked down to them/treated them like scum once he found out they were unemployed). She learned about how he treated them at the reunion from a drunken Osomatsu and has held a grudge ever since as she hates people who have worldviews like that ("oh people who are NEETs are useless and shitty; Japanese work culture is totally flawless").

The rest is under a readmore because I ended up typing way way too much.

I also thought it might be funny if she somehow ran into the woman who scammed Karamatsu in season 1 in the Christmas ep and just... Went rabid shark on her or something LMAO.

As for her best friends... I don't know if she's a BEST friend, but the first friend Emma makes when she comes to Japan is Totoko. While the two seem opposite at first glance, they both love fish/marine life, they're both quite confrontational and not afraid to throw hands, and both can be terrifying if they want to be (Shark and Piranha respectively).

Emma is very grateful to have Totoko as she is Emma's only female friend (currently, she'd love more OTL) and thus is the only one she can actually talk to about girl problems and hang at the bathhouse with.

As for Emma's actual best friend, that's probably Osomatsu. I guess you could count Ichimatsu as well as the two have a lot in common but their friendship isn't a very dialogue-heavy one. Her friendship with Oso has a lot more talking and a lot more of them actually going out and doing things.

Both she and Osomatsu view themselves as irredeemable pieces of shit (for different reasons) so they have a very like... "Everyone hates us/we're losers, but at least we have each other" kind of friendship.

While Karamatsu gives her the romantic relationship she needs, Osomatsu provides her the platonic relationship she needed too. I think platonic relationships are just as important as romantic ones (in Emma's case as she is biromantic demisexual), both provide something different but equally important (Again, specifically in Emma's case).

Emma is one of the few people who will actually defend Osomatsu/go to bat for him and while Osomatsu sometimes uses this knowledge for selfish purposes (like to prevent Karamatsu from getting on his case), at the end of the day, Emma is kind of like the sister he never had. He treats her a bit similar to "Ichimacchan" where his teasing for her is much lighter/friendlier and tries to hype her up when he can if she's in a depressed mood.

And Emma will sometimes (gently) urge him to make a better choice if she can, like "maybe one drink is enough for tonight... i-if only so you can walk me back to my place properly, I mean." and he sometimes actually listens because somehow he feels and knows that she genuinely feels like he has a good heart under all his "Oso-ness". They don't judge each other for their flaws and understand they're both a lot more complicated than the rest of the world seems to think, and I think it's sweet.
