The Garretts are everything the Reeds are not. Loud, numerous, messy, affectionate. And every day from her balcony perch, 17-year-old Samantha Reed wishes she was one of them … until one summer evening, when Jase Garrett climbs her terrace and changes everything.

I started this book about 2 weeks ago, as light relief from the more serious book I was reading at the same time. I came back to it for my holiday reading, and I loved it!
I was expecting a usual YA novel, which is basically contemporary for teens, which is my favourite genre of book. But this took such a twist halfway through, a darker, more serious twist, that made it so different from others.
I especially loved that characters in this book as well. At the beginning, Samantha is trying to work out which Garrett is which from her vantage point, which is difficult as there are 8 of them. But you learn right along with her, and it was only when I was 3/4 of the way through the book I actually realised I’d learned who was who so easily!
I also loved Jase and Samantha's relationship. So easy, no games or messiness from them, just the outside world towards them. Reminded me of me and Daniel!
The only thing stopping me from giving this full marks is the ending. It felt a little bit rushed, although I think that’s because the author was trying to be enigmatic. It left a few questions as to what happened to Mr Garrett, Samantha’s mom, the Garrett family in general… A sequel would be very welcomed.
9/10
