There are very few people who have a tone that makes me breathe easier… one is @MilesDavis, and the other is #HoustonPerson. @heyemmet with his trio featuring @poole.kyle & @russellhall_ has been a powerhouse rythm section that knows no bounds. Recently, for his return to #Dizzys @jazzdotorg on one of nights of his residency, he invited very special guest Houston Person. I went alone for the first set with no cameras and just enjoyed it. A rare occasion. I was trying to figure out why I felt so relaxed at one point, I then realized every time Houston played I had this overwhelming sense of relief. Can’t explain, won’t try, just know that Houston and Miles do the same for me. • Mr. Person is a living legend at 87 years old with more energy than most a quarter his age. His stories are hilarious, and as he likes to say, “it’s just all the blues.” Check out the #EmmetCohen stream with Mr. Person on his @youtube channel. I have been very fortunate and lucky to have been born in a time to see some of the legends of music play. I’ve been even more fortunate to circle their orbits. @roncarterbassist is the embodiment of the statement, “living legend”. Not just a national treasure, but a global one. • @heyemmet #EmmetCohen is a phenomenal young keeper of the torch of this great music called #Jazz, reinventing standards in his own approach, and writing what will one day be known as standards. His version of the Feldman/Davis standard #Joshua performed on Valentine’s Day for the inaugural @terremotojazzroom, was one of those moments that was on fire, still available to watch on his @youtube channel. • Rounding out this trio, is @evanshermanmusic a young meticulous demanding drummer, who, like Emmet, is not only an amazing student of the music, but a wonderfully generous teacher of it, guiding students on his jam nights. • Jazz… I don’t know how to describe it. I just know, when I listen to it, more so than anything… especially by the people who master it… helps me breathe easier, expands my chest a bit larger. Last year, when everything seemed bleak, @heyemmet set up a live stream. Before anyone knew what they were doing, @abwsax2 sorted it all out and pushed it to @facebook and @youtube. A channel was born! Other than @terremotocoffee with @bbjazziii, there was nothing happening in the City. #EmmetCohen created an oasis for some of the best jazz musicians in the world! • So honored to be welcomed in to his home for these special Monday nights. Over time I got to befriend this immense talent and crew of musicians in his orbit. We partnered for an amazing Valentine’s Day show for @terremotojazzroom that can be found on his #YouTube channel. Then his remote show w/ #HoustonPerson.
