I was just wondering if the cryptid playlist suits your impeccable tastes? Does it fit the Emmet's Web MC as well as you'd thought it would? Did I introduce you to any new songs or artists?

I have one suggestion!

The one song that actually helped inspire Emmet's Web:

At first it sounds like the song is sung by Emmet,

But it's actually sung by the Reader's Perspective.

Emmet's already got some problems you see. He could still be helped if directed in the right path. Reader's gone way too downhill, but is searching for redemption anyway.

Emmet is her redemption. And he enables the reader, allowing himself to be more and more corrupted.

They are a slave to each other and a master to the other. They are each other's Beauty and Monster.

2: What scene did you first put down?

Months of not speaking above a whisper caught up, your throat gravelly and hoarse. “You have reeeally pretty eyes.”

When conceptualising Emmet's Web, I wanted to emulate the same scene from Princess Mononoke where Ashitaka said San was beautiful while having the tip of her dagger against his throat. An MC moments away from death, cursed beyond repair and with nothing left to lose.

5: What part was the hardest to write?

Chapter 4: In Sync

I remember being dissatisfied with how the Warden Ceremony will go I've rewritten it at least three times.

I've long lost the other drafts - probably deleted them out of frustration. This was the one chapter where I had to take a few days off from writing it because I was just so defeated on how it was going to go. I already planned out the entire fic by chapter summary, so it was even more vexing why I could get my thoughts into words.

I remember researching several different wedding ceremonies for the entire scene. One of the things I needed to happen was how the Japanese drank sake to show new bonds between the bride and the groom's families. I wanted to make sure I got everything in detail to make it as real and as intimate as possible.

Another difficulty I had was deciding how Emmet's venom will affect the Reader. During the first draft, it was supposed to be hot and fiery, like lava flowing through your veins. It was supposed to be painful, suffocating and terribly addicting but decided to use that as Lord Drapion's venom instead. I settled for giving Emmet the opposite - cool, calming and intoxicatingly soothing, easier to crave and to become dependent on.

9. Were there any alternate versions of this fic?

Buckle up kids, you're in for a ride! TWs include venom ingesting, minor character deaths and the shittiest emotional manipulation ever!

Near the ending where there poachers died, they were supposed to be ex-Platinum clan members who were hunting the Reader down. The original draft had the Reader wrapped snugly in a cocoon, just vibing somewhere in one of Emmet's webs when she was seized by her clanmates. For the first time in a while, she struggled to stay alive because she actually had something and someone to live for now.

Just when she was about to get bludgeoned, Emmet appears and demands what's going on. The Platinum members are shocked to find that she was Warden again, which adds to the list of cardinal sins she's committed. A Warden can only link with a single Hybrid lord/lady. Once their Lord/Lady dies, the Warden retires.

Reader is more than capable enough to shake off her clanmates, but out of sadistic pride over having Emmet depend on her very existence, she presses his buttons just enough to get him to go berserk.

"My Lord, they're hurting me.."

"Emm, I love you, don't listen to them."

The declaration of love is a lie. Reader still doesn't really feel 'love' in a sense as most others do. She just knows Emmet is important to her just as much as she is to him for their own selfish reasons. Like two snakes eating each others tails.

"Help me, Emmet..."

Emmet subconsciously knows this but will latch on to anything remotely similar to verbal affection. His brain shuts down, too ecstatic when he registers it, before hearing her next order.

"Kill them, Emmet."

Emmet's never actually killed anyone. His threat to the Reader when they first met was only a bluff. But after seeing his Warden in danger and being told he was loved? He goes on this manic bloodspree while Reader watches on in satisfaction, her brethren falling like flies around her until Emmet is a heaving mess. You are just in control of Emmet as much as he has control over you. The reader then wraps her arms around his neck, embracing him and cooing sweet words and praises before kissing him as a reward, the blood of their enemies smeared between their lips.

This was great and all but then thought "You know what I haven't seen yet? Reader taking lives in the name of 'love' instead."

I also thought that it was pretty ridiculous to have ex-clanmates follow someone regions away from them just to make sure they were good as dead. As long as Reader stayed away from them, I think they wouldn't care what happened to her.

I made this because I realized how unhinged my music taste is getting.

The title alone is perfect for the Reader MC of Emmet's Web! One of the tags in AO3 for an it literally says "Reader is a Cryptid".
