I don’t think romanced emmlich is going to lose himself to grief when Rook passes away but I do think he’s going to get really eccentric with how he honours them as the years go on.
Like I’m talking everyone just know that once a year Lich Lord Volkarin has a three week leave where he goes and lies perfectly still in next to Rook’s skeleton in their sarcophagus just like he would have if the two of them had been buried together. He’s fine and very obviously not dead but if you try to talk to him he will not answer because that goes against the spirit of the thing.
It’s definitely weird in a way that makes you wonder if someone should maybe consider inventing therapy in Thedas but ultimately it is a harmless coping mechanism so they just let him keep at it. One year some of his students come to “mourn” him and leave some flowers at “his” and Rook’s grave. He is genuinely moved by the gesture.
