Being colonized by other countries, we Filipinos are influenced with a lot of things. We fought for our independence but we have failed to fight for our novelty in terms of language. Nowadays, even we Filipinos doesn't know a lot of Filipino words due to this toxic mindset and lifestyle. We want to live according to what is 'in' or popular.
We should not forget the reason why we fought for this independence. Let's focus more on extending our native language for the next generation. Let's familiarize some words that are becoming extinct on our daily basis. We should cherish and be proud of our native language. How social media has helped families, social workers and the government in discerning information during calamities?
Social media arose in the midst of the modern technology and its effects had an impact not just in the community but also in the cultural aspect. Before social media, information is scarce and disseminated in an uneasy and hard fashion but as the time goes by, technological advancement of mankind evolved and information dissemination goes along with the flow.
Information is just "too easy" to get with modern technology and it affects the information dissemination capacity even in the small unit of gov't, the barangays. social workers , families and the government gained so much with this easy, cost effecient, and wide range method for giving information especially in time of calamities and devastation. the greatest example of this is the current situation of the Taal Volcano, with the help of social media, people and residents that live around the TVI or the taal volcano island are alerted and evacuated safely last January 12, 2020. the last eruption of the volcano occured in 1965 and claimed many casualties because of the lack of discerning information during calamities that lead to many lives lost. if we compare these two situations, we can clearly see that the 2020 eruption will win because of the less casualty and residents evacuated.
It helped many families in making the right decision in terms of disaster preparedness and it helped social workers and the local government units for evacuation notices. Disaster preparedness is a factor that everyone needs especially by the government and social media is their key in giving information to the masses for an effecient and proper environment.
