I like to think that Lizzie, Daughter of Neptune but also Legacy of Venus, cooked up a naive plan to get Joel to go to her more by amplifying everyone's love/desire towards Joel until he notices it and has to ask for help.

(He didn't. He thought everyone just somehow began to notice how charming he was while Lizzie eventually forgot she even did anything since Joel magnets towards her with or without the obsession problem.)
