An Evolution of notes: So it is 7pm, and this is the first sign of blue sky that we have had all day. I thought I might post an example of my notes. Now, these vary from class to class. In the above class, Behavioural Psychology, I am a voluntary notetaker for the Disabilities Services, so I handwrite my notes in lectures on what the lecturer says, and then add information/diagrams from the powerpoints later, and type those compiled notes for Disabilities Services, because my notes wouldn’t make sense for them. For textbook readings, I try to write an explanation of the text so that my non-psychology friends can understand. For example, the paragraph under Pavlov’s Discovery and Its Impact has been summed up as
“So classical conditioning, like many other great scientific discoveries, was found by accident. Dr Ivan Pavlov, a Nobel Prize Winner in Physiology, was looking at the various substances secreted by the digestive system, in this case saliva in dogs....” It may look quite dense on the paper, but because I have reworded it into conversational language, I will remember it much more easily. I’m also going to re-condense information from lectures and readings into a quick study guide once we finish our Classical Conditioning unit.
Note: the excessive highlighting that is hidden -- not mine, I bought the book secondhand.
A train used to disgorge hundreds of Vandals in Moscow, Idaho right before the semester started. Now, with the academic year over, the town sits quietly. Won’t be long, though, until the students return not by train but by motor vehicle, airplane, and bus!
