Glassy eyes stared up at the ceiling, unseeing. Heat radiated off their skin, face red, sweat beading on their forehead.

Yet they still wouldn’t remove the restraints. They couldn’t be certain how long they had been like this but at this point, clarity was a distant memory. The buzzing institutional lights pulsated painfully in their feverish vision. Nurses came and went but they couldn’t focus on their faces. They murmured pacifying nothings and disappeared. Even after the fever waned and their color returned, their eyes did not focus. They remained caught in their own world silent and with an empty gaze.
