BTS Japanese albums

In addition to their Korean tracks, BTS made several Japanese releases.

Some may wonder why Japan got all those unique versions. The first thing to note is that all foreign CDs sold in Japan have bonus tracks or unique versions. It's to keep people from importing the original CD as it would be cheaper than buying it in a store (src: x, x, x). In the case of K-pop, artists also make Japanese versions of their songs because Japan represents a bigger market than Korea. And songs in Japanese are more popular (src: x, x). The same applies to China.

BTS Japanese discography works a bit differently from their Korean one. Most of the tracks are a Japanese version of their Korean songs, with the same music and translated/different lyrics. These versions are first released as singles, with an MV to promote them.

Every two years, the singles are compiled in a full-length album that also includes more Japanese versions and a few exclusive Japanese tracks.

WAKE UP is BTS’ first full-length Japanese album. It was preceded by three singles each accompanied by an MV:

The album also includes the song “FOR YOU” that got two MVs in June 2015.

MAP OF THE SOUL 7 ~ THE JOURNEY ~ combines Japanese versions of the tracks from LOVE YOURSELF 轉 Tear, LOVE YOURSELF 結 Answer, and the Map of the Soul series. Only one version got an MV:

Stay Gold

“Stay Gold” is the theme song of the drama Rasen no Meikyuu (src) and “Your Eyes Tell” is the theme song of the Japanese movie Kimo no me ga toikaketeiru (Your Eyes Tell) (src). The producers contacted BTS to ask them to do the song (more details here). It was revealed in the making film that the song was composed by Jung Kook and was originally going to be on his first mixtape but in the end it was selected to be the OST (src 1, src 2).

The cover was designed by Bang Sangho (Instagram posts: #1, #2, #3, #4).

Concerning the photos, people noticed that one of the group photos had the same pose as the one for the “Florescence” concept in 화양연화 pt.1.
