This is what I (@iamkrucialkeys) started on connected to a drive that took 5 inch floppy disks. Sample time was extremely limited. So you had to be creative with taking tiny bits of sounds you liked off records. No sample packs, no kits , and stock sounds were wack as hell. I so appreciate today's technology and all the access to great sounds online, amazing stock sounds and unlimited sample time. But thanks to this machine I know when too much is too much and the true concept behind creative sampling. From the EMU SP 12, I moved on the the EMU SP1200 and then my favorite the Akai MPC3000 by Roger Linn. Today you don't really need a drum machine even as just a controller. But there's something about banging on pads that make me feel more connected to the music. Besides, I was always the kid banging on the desks, walls and lunchroom tables. Glad I can still express myself in that manner but in a more constructive way , ha!
