friends that stick together stay together
Growing up non-speaking autistic has never been easy. But with his trusty sticker decorated AAC device, Riz slowly finds friends that accept him completely; friends that actively reach out to appreciate his voice for exactly what it is. Riz couldn’t have imagined anything better. Or: One time Riz is made fun of for the stickers on his AAC device, and five times each of his friends gift him a sticker back.
Disability a Day
Disability a Day was a challenge for myself to write daily about being disabled ft. Dimension 20 characters and settings. It is a collection of 31 works uniting a month challenge of disability promprs that anyone is free to use. I have made a month challenge list which is the first posted work if you want to join along.
"There is a fire within me so great that it fuels the stars, so aflame that it melts planets, so blazing that it reverses to the point where freezing meets heat, my love for you is eternally cosmic, as massive as the universe. Love some would say, but what I feel transcends even the divine.."
I feel how God must feel, a whole encompassing love - eUë
My body is far from what I want it to be, but this picture showcases the thing I'm most proud of myself for: constantly working (or jumping blindly) towards my goals.
Growing up, I was very quiet and very anxious. In high school, I was on a hike on a church trip. We came upon a cliff overlooking a lake, and our guides told us it was safe to jump in. So I did. I convinced myself I wasn't scared, and jumped in without hesitation. That's how I've lived my life since.
I moved to NYC with a goal but without a job or an apartment and made it work. I moved to LA the same way. And I keep reaching my goals. I'm so close to reaching my current goal, and the day it happens will be beyond exciting.
Want my body to look a different way? Okay, let's change my diet and start working out. Teeth making me sad? Let's switch up the routine. Hair not working out? Let's cut it.
My life is not perfect, but I know I will never stop working towards my goals. I have some majorly lofty goals ahead, and I'm confident I'll be able to see most of them through because I don't give up (even when maybe I should?). Wish me luck!
A succulent kiss
Falling from lips
That once held love
Could turn to such hate
Known soon enough
What lines life creates
Young, before to old
Tracing no longer fate
Create a new mold
Rather than continue to scrape
Off others gold
Or another’s plate.
~
Encompass a bond
Between you and your faith
Faith that can place
Love above hate
Know that the mold
Is terribly hard to break
But eventually life
Will start to take its shape.
~
Allow personal growth
And perspectives to change
Know the ways to go
And allow yourself new roads
Sometimes just coast
But in hard times push through the groans.
~
Take a leap of faith
Don’t allow your mind state to fade
Innocent you may stay
So long as you choose
A forever happy place.
~
Your life; it is your plate
Feed it what you may
Behind the closed doors
Creatures may lay in wait.
