trying to decide on features for quetzal i Might give it feathers. rn i have house saying "yeah feathered serpent really cool" and its like "?? but i dont have feathers. but i like the name because you gave it to me." however. it could have feathers. also dont know if i want my wings, insect wings, feathered wings. gator tail. flygon tail. fins on arms? it definitely has scales. you'll never guess the color

"Why do you do this?" it asked, nudging at his semi-erection with its snout.

He was a monster for even considering it. "Just lay down next to me, will you?" he sighed.

"Awful cagey." It did it again, this time opening its mouth and biting just hard enough to hold pressure to him.

"Careful!" he hissed, though it was indeed already being exceedingly gentle with him.

"I have seen humans mating. This part of the display, yes?" Its words being pressed into him like that were making it difficult to remain focused on the point of how he was the bastard of the earth. "Does it serve another purpose?"

"Not--well, yes, but not--not like this, no."

Quetzal's gaze slowly lifted to meet his, and his heart pounded under its intensity. "Hmm," it finally responded.

Another silence lapsed, and House's ears began to ring. His blood pressure was shot to hell, and it was enough to give him symptoms in VR. He tried to steady his panicked breathing, maintaining a cautiously neutral expression. If it felt scared, or threatened, its teeth were still much too close for comfort, whether the damage would be real or just as painful. Worse, he might lose it in earnest this time, before his heart could even recover from the scare earlier.

It sat up, very slowly, and spoke again before the stress made him faint. "I have not had a mate that I chose." It clacked its teeth a few times, tail twitching anxiously behind it. It flopped beside him with a huff. It delicately rested its hand on his chest, over his heart, and pressed its snout into his neck. He was aware, vaguely, of its past complaints that he smelled only of cologne, and not at all of musk and pheromones. "There is nothing like me in this world. And, there is nothing like you." Its claw traced circles on him, and he placed his hand over its, just to feel its bones and tendons flex as it moved. It sighed. "I wish I could be a prince for you. You're even in a tower."

"Maybe in this story, the princess falls in love with the dragon guarding the tower, hmm?" The softness that had seeped into his voice should have disgusted him. It didn't.

"You have told me that many animals I share the DNA of mate for life. Do you?"

"Most humans fool around for a bit when they're younger before settling down with one mate for the rest of their lives."

"Do you?" it repeated.

Forever with someone else to worry about made him nervous, truthfully. He didn't know how long Quetzal would live, if it would grow old or sick. He didn't know if it would get sick of the unconventional relationship he could give it. He didn't know if it would one day decide to turn on him.

Not knowing things was getting rather exhausting.

What he did know was that he wanted to have this for forever. He wanted it right beside him, and he wanted it in his bed, and he wanted it to help maintain both himself and his empire, and he wanted it to keep chewing on him, and he wanted it to stay.

"I think so," he finally answered.

quetzal was created with the implicit purpose of navigating communist controlled tropical regions and waterways. no other embryo created was viable, and quetzal was not genetically compatible with the deathclaw experiments, either. it was too expensive to send a prototype into enemy territory, and as such, it was still in the vault that created it when the bombs fell. it escaped not long after, and began a wandering walk through the wastes. its curiosity led it to the still light polluted skies of what would eventually become new vegas, and makes it so for its new employer. he was an unholy sister of sin that helped kill terzo bc he loves copia. unfortunately a terzo loving sister killed himself, came back as a ghoul [star ghoul] to kill comet, who also came back as ghoul [frost ghoul], and now they're both hellbent on destroying each other and fucking their respective papas. this is the most nonserious thing you've ever seen. copia doesn't even know what to do with him.
