Long ago, the elemental guardians sacrificed everything to save the world of Encryyon. A thousand years after that cataclysmic apocalypse blotted out half the sky, the world has adjusted to its two-toned climate. Luuthe Irashira is a young heir to one of the three great households of Andelion. Ever since the death of his mother, the head of the house, he finds himself enmeshed in a power struggle for the vast wealth and power of Luuthe. One summer, a shapeshifting vagrant and an incendiary storyteller turn his life upside-down, and he is unexpectedly reunited with a childhood friend. In the background of these mortal turmoils, the world is shifting...

Fishing for the Moon, Chapter 48: The Moon

A frigid rain pattered against the window and ran down the panes, the drops chasing each other to the bottom of the sill, until other drops hit them and exploded in a puff of mist. Upper Eda disappeared in a dense grey haze. Summer had gone and autumn was fading. Curled up on a mat in the corner, Ira lay staring at a pile of paper on the floor, looking very small inside a thin, oversized tunic like a nightshirt.

Just kidding! This is the end of 《水中捞月》 (Fishing for the Moon), but not the end of the story. If you were following this, thank you! Volume 2 of Encryyon is about 80% written now. In the meantime, I will be posting various arts and facts about this world over the course of time. OvO

Wrapped up in the quietness of his bedroom, Ira heard Hinathu’s knock on the study door outside, listening to Hinathu’s pause, the door opening, and the rasp of the sliding screen into his room. “Ira?” his voice asked. And then, closer and softer, “Oh … Ira.” Ira had dragged all the blankets off of his bed, sheets and all, and lay curled up in a mound on the rug. Venturing a hand into the open, he sat up, pushing a stack of books aside, and looked at Hinathu with a distinct feeling of nothing.

The truck shuddered. Putting his head against his hand, Ira shifted in his seat, fingering the pistol in the breast of his coat. It made his brain itch, as if he were keeping a snake in his pocket. Byri’s tail switched in the corner of his vision as she propped her elbows on the driver’s armrest. Behind them, Naau and the Rannaitan messenger sat opposite each other, their eyes glowing in the shadows.
