My Encyclia tampensis has finally popped into bloom! It smells lightly of fennel leaves. Hoping I can get all three buds open for the next orchid society meeting.

Encyclia cordigera by Richard Ellis Via Flickr: Encyclia cordigera is a popular orchid species native to Mexico, Central America and into Brazil. It has a pleasant aroma that to me smells like chocolate and vanilla. #Encycliacordigera #Encyclia #cordigera #orchid #CUgreenhouse #botany
Encyclia tampensis, the Tampa butterfly orchid, is an epiphytic member of the Orchid family. Despite its small size, it can make quite large showings of the bronze and purple flowers which are said to look like butterflies when caught by a breeze. While this plant is widespread and easy-growing, collection is well-regulated, whether on public or private land. It's very easy to see why it is considered under threat from overcollection.
Encyclia hybrid. Woodsy, cedar-y scent.
This is a beautiful encyclia tampensis (aka Florida Butterfly Orchid) in bloom, it smells like talc powder! #OrchidRescue #Tampensis #Orchid #FloridaButterflyOrchid #Encyclia #EncycliaTampensis #RescuingOrchids #Bloom #TalcPowder
