One of our native alliums, Coast Onion (A. dichlamydeum) growing in vast quantities on the bluffs above Rockaway Beach. These coastal onions resprout every year from an edible bulb. This species is endemic to Northern California, and is found nowhere else on earth.

Very excited to see the wild South American slipper orchid again, although I missed the flowering season. According to the research, I guess this is Phragmipedium lindleyanum, which grows in the cloud forest of Mount Roraima.

Dendrobium Michiko

Dendrobium Michiko was named in honor of then Crown Princess (now Empress Emerita) Michiko of Japan when she visited back in 1970.

Taken against dark undergrowth with the exposure biased a stop darker to keep highlights. Small sensor cameras tend to blow out highlights easily because of their more limited dynamic range.
