Today, a kid was arrested because he brought a gun to my school. Yesterday, everyone was in a panic because a kid threatened to shoot up my school.
As I observe all around me similar things happening to so many other schools, my heart feels heavy. Hatred, it seems, has grown so strong. It is spreading more quickly than the most contagious illness, and it is more deadly than the most fatal virus. It sickens me, and it pains me.
It makes me so angry. How many people have to die? How many parents have to lose their children? How many friends have to lose their peers? How many lovers have to lose their love? How much pain has to be spread?
What does hatred do for us? Nothing. It causes misery. The person who is destroyed most by hatred is the one doing the hating. And if you lash out and harm others, what are you left with when it is all over? Only your hatred. It is useless. Painful. Cruel. It is humankind's worst enemy, but it is so weak. Love is so much stronger. People would die for love. What would they do for hatred? Kill, like a coward? Annihilate everything in their path? And then they'll be alone.
It seems the generations before us will not fight it, therefore, it is up to us. It is up to us. We must eradicate our world of hatred- because it is our world. Our future children's world. Their children's world. Can we sit back and watch everything plunge into the depths of hell?
Race should not matter. Religion (or lack of) should not matter. Sexual orientation should not matter. Gender should not matter. By "should not matter," what I mean to say is that it should not change our love for a person. Who cares about any of those things, when we all breathe the same oxygen? We all have bones and blood and skin and hearts. We are all unique, but we are all alike in our humanity. Stop discriminating. Stop laughing at someone because they're weird. Stop making judgements on people you don't even know. A person can wear what they want and do what they want so long as they're not hurting anyone. Let people be happy. Let people love themselves. Love them. Teenagers like to rebel, right? Well, I believe the most rebellious thing you can do is love. You love to overcome the overwhelming amount of hatred that pollutes the air.
Didn't we have the right idea somewhere along the line? A few decades ago? Peace. Love. Equality. The world is filled with War. Hatred. Discrimination.
And no one is doing anything about it.
I understand what it is to feel helpless in this situation...but you're not helpless. None of us are.
The world changes one person at a time.
You love.
You spread peace.
You choose equality.
The world is in our hands, everyone. We shape the future. Let's make it a better place, no matter how rough the path is to get there.
If we work together, unified, we can do it.
I believe in you.
Let's make this world a beautiful place.
