ender lillies doodles!
This game is rent free in my mind right now but Something that I genuinely love about it the whole way through is that it never...QUITE let’s you feel like a huge badass despite the fact that Lily demonstrably becomes one (kinda sorta in one way and definitively in another) even as girlie is getting stronger and more able throughout the game.
Like it’s really obvious in the animations, but also in the growing blight on her, and the way the game describes the effects of the blight on people.
Her dodge animation for a good chunk of the game is just a panicked dive out of the way! She just yeet’s her tiny body out of the way of whatever blight infected individual is trying to carve her apart now, and yeah mechanically it’s a dodge roll, but she just flings herself to the ground and just struggles to pull herself up before they try and tear her apart.
And then when it gets upgraded, her dodge is more sure of itself, more confident and all that, she get’s this kind of cool graceful short flight thing and it’s definitely more impressive but also every single upgrade has her get more and more covered in this curse that very much is killing her and hurting LESS than the absolutely soul searing pain everyone else get’s so you don’t quite get to enjoy that growth in ability if you’re paying attention to it and that matters to you...
But then the last dash upgrade with Lance Man she has her short little dash and then she just holds on for dear life as this dude with a fuckoff huge spear just rockets across the screen and you see her just kinda flapping behind him like a flag.
Like about the only proactive thing she can do that’s wholly her’s and not summoning ghosts to bop fellows (which fair’s fair, that is her power but it’s calling something else to defend her so i hope you get what i mean here) is basically and literally pray to not die which if she borks the timing she get’s rocked, and even if she does it perfectly timing wise she STILL get’s flung across the room because she is a tiny tiny child fighting powerful warriors and folks mutated into horrifying monsters often like twice her size and weight at minimum.
Going back to original point, she’s demonstrably badass in that she’s able to deal with this stuff, cause making it through dire situations is always cool I think, but also nearly ever action makes it painfully clear that Lily is still in fact a tiny tiny child who is catastrophically in over her head on any of her self appointed missions.
I have no idea why the video saved so lop sided, but I was proud of this kill. The first boss to give me any real difficulty.
This game is a ton of fun so far. Nice blend of metroidvania exploration and a story that borrows a lot from Dark Souls/ Code Vein.
