Endgate Nether Portal (x, z)
I like having nether portals decorated to match the location you’ll pop out on the other side.
Endgate — the Alchemical Guild
Inspired by the Borgund Stave Church in Norway, the Alchemical guild is the workplace of Endgate Village’s Clerics.
Endgate Village — the Ironwood Tree
The central feature of Endgate (above ground, anyways) is the Ironwood Tree, a custom tree made from acacia wood blocks, from which springs a fountain. Endgate’s wealth comes from their exclusive access to and trading with acacia wood, so the Ironwood Tree commemorates that.
Endgate Village (130, -740)
The first village I decided to rebuild/redesign, Endgate has a long and rough history. I found it early in the game while exploring, and though it was daytime while I was walking down the streets, I could hear zombie noises. After some investigation I found a cave entrance under a farm plot in the middle of town and went down to investigate, when I found the outer wall of an end gateway chamber exposed and within maybe 12 blocks of the surface.
Tragedy first struck Endgate while I was down below in the stronghold looting and there must have been some kind of zombie siege on the surface, because when I resurfaced, the population had been reduced by probably half.
That’s when tragedy struck a second time. Defending the already weakened village from a pillager patrol accidentally triggered a raid, which the bedraggled village was sorely unprepared for.
But the location was good—directly above an end gateway and on the border of a savannah, providing the only source of acacia wood for miles, and barely half a day’s travel on foot from Þruðgard—so I started rebuilding it.
I tried doing some ugly apartment buildings for a bit to try to get the population back up—I had snatched a couple villagers from the “Abandoned Village” to the south—but really wanted it to look nice on top of being functional.
So Endgate started to develop a culture, based on their history and their surroundings. It is the only source of acacia, so it has a rare material. It’s a center of trade, and that on top of its heavy defenses—a direct result of their dark history—has made them extremely wealthy, though they never forget the dangers in the world that can strip that all away—especially since I use it as an occasional raid farm.
Endgate Prison
It seems a little cruel, maybe, but one of the most important features of Endgate is the prison.
Endgate’s history is one of tragedy, and they’ve had their entire population eradicated once before. The prison is more accurately a “doomsday vault”, which houses 3 villagers, their beds, and their workstations, completely encased in blocks to hide and protect them from hostiles. I did a lot of testing in my creative test world and found that vexes—which were my biggest concern—wouldn’t attack villagers if the pillager who summoned them couldn’t see the villagers, which included if they were concealed by opaque blocks like iron bars.
And since Endgate is directly over a stronghold, I had no shortage of iron bars lying around.
Endgate
One last look at Endgate, the center of trade and my first big village project in this world.
Endgate Village — Craftsman Buildings
Near the center of town is a Blacksmith (where all the town’s weapon smiths work) and two more mirror-image buildings on either side of the Ironwood Tree. To the left is the Stone Yard, where all the towns masons work. To the right is the Lumber Mill, where I decided to put all the tool smiths.
Don’t ask why a farmer is working at a smithing table. They just do that idk how to make them stop.
Endgate Village — Library and Cartography Shop
The west side of Endgate houses the Library and Cartography shops, two of a handful of buildings dedicated to housing specific professions.
