Han Yoojin is "normal."

Everyone sees him as "normal."

The story makes sure we know he's "normal."

And we get to see that being so undeniably human is miraculous when you're surrounded by these people who don't show their human mundanity.

This is a guy who takes spam calls for fun, and the god-like Sung Hyunjae makes him breakfast and knits for him.

This is a guy who is excited to meet a celebrity and the best water-based Hunter in the world goes to school because he tells her to.

This is a guy whose ability is just to love and be loved, and he is so, so loved by a being who is more monster and more fire than human.

He doesn't just bring out existing humanity. He sparks humanity.

#msch #tsctir #sctir #han yoojin #Endings MSCH #I keep coming back to how normal HYJ is #Obviously he isn't that normal of a guy as anyone who has read even two sentences in the novel can attest #But he's normal in all the important ways #He cares I mean #Which isn't exactly normal when you consider that the human defense response against the bombardment of the attention economy #Which seems to be calculated apathy #But he cares in a way that is beautifully human #He cares about things that matter and things that are mundane #And things that are required to live happily #It's probably my favorite thing about him #So many of the characters in MSCH would be so much less loveable if we didn't get to see him through the lens of his love #I'm sure we would still like them #But there would be a whole lot fewer people gushing over Hyunjae if we didn't see Yoojin's exceptionally human treatment of him #Okay I'm done #All stories have Endings

Yoojin's fear resistance means he can feel even more self-hatred and devastation because he doesn't receive the fear signal to stop feeding into that. His mind won't abort for protection.

Had my birthday recently, and a close friend of mine chose to gift me a pink sweater and a moon necklace. Before I opened the gifts, they said the items might need some explanation, but I knew immediately what they were referencing the moment I saw the pink ;)

So now I can walk around enchained by the Crescent Moon and warmed by S-Class knitting ^^*

Gift-giving as Han Yoojin's go-to, eat your heart out--

Of all the ways Yoojin shows love, I think this is the one he leans on the most, possibly because it makes him feel valuable as a caretaker and as a living human being who is finally able to be useful and provide.
