I have always loved the simplicity and beauty of the composition ‘Lawns’ by Carla Bley.  It is one of the first jazz pieces I learned to play on piano. Kurt Elling composed the graceful lyrics based on an interpretation of a poem, Winter Stars, by Sara Teasdale.  Beautifully performed by a very talented septet.  

Afloat and all at sea / the stars align in threes They're so fine and free / in blue and in green Like leaves on endless trees
