Have you ever thought about just leaving it all? Just getting rid of the annoying routine and the people you see every day? I did. It was three years ago. I had just graduated, I had just passed my entrance exams. Excellent grades. I could go anywhere I wanted to… But I thought – What is it that makes college, university and an office so important? Can’t I just stay at home, have fun and rid myself of this same ol’, same ol’?
Well, I did it. I just enrolled in a university and never, not even once did I go to a class, a practical one or theory – it didn’t matter. I just stayed at home. At first, I was very happy. I managed to go out with all my friends, to have fun. We played games. We ate and tried the new blends at the local Starbucks. We went to the billiards hall, rode our bicycles, we drank and met new girls. We played more games, board games, video games. One of us would buy a PlayStation, and the others would buy the games.
However, one day, they all started having exams; soon they were studying harder, their lives diverted from the fun I sought. So, I me others – guys and girls who didn’t study, or were not frequenting classes, just like me. Their ideas of fun didn’t really include board games, nor did they include much of gaming at all. They liked drinking, though… Fighting, some other stuff. Soon enough, I felt an outcast. I was not meant for these.
My world was in the games. I played and played. I even went on the Second Life servers, somewhat dead long ago. I tried Lineage, I went on Mabinogi, got into Assassin’s Creed’s multiplayer, I played Korean and Japanese games via VPN. Years passed. My parents got annoyed and, as would all normal ones, decided to lent me money for three months’ worth of rent and kick me out. What was I to do? Play more? Try to get back on my studies? It was impossible now. I have lost the insertion of studying.
I had to find a job.
So, I applied for many ones – human resources, marketing, programming, housekeeping, dog sitting, babysitting, even marriage consulting. Hell, I would have even applied for plane pilot, if they were seeking for them via online job listings.
However, I knew something – no one would have hired me in those positions. I was inexperienced and... Honestly? I didn’t care enough to even try and lie. However, something did happen. I offered myself as a helping hand for a small business which occupies itself with network solutions and… Basically, they are an internet provider. One of those small local business which put half the price for double the speed. It’s been a wonderful time ever since. I get extreme web speed for the region (110 mbps) and it’s very easily maintained.
I am the technician, after all!
So, everyone – I may not be the best company. I may even be one of the worst. I am not very smart, nor am I much fun. However, I did manage to somehow find a place in this world. A small business for which I am working and an own place. My parents are proud of me. More than they have ever been.
My bad days are gone and now I can find a lot to be happy about. Can’t see what could go wrong!
