reading the fallen series by @engazed right now & genuinely it’s better than some of the trilogies i’ve read from the bookstore. i have not binged fics like these in literal years. the world-building is insane. the attention to literally every single detail and aspect of the plot is sooooo well done. like there’s nothing that is mentioned that i don’t store for later because chances are it’s gonna come up again, no detail is unimportant. genuinely soooo harrowing and gripping & the characterization is just !!!! beautiful to meee oh my god. have literally been losing sleep over it. one of the most stunning beautiful impressive case fics to ever case fic

I haven’t read a BBC Sherlock fanfiction since the end of season 4. I just couldn’t stomach them for obvious reasons. I have occasionally grazed the surface of the fandom to check what’s new, saved some interesting stories here and there but have not read them. One of them was The Grating Roar by Engazed.
This story caught my eye when it first started posting in 2018 and then when it finished in 2019, I downloaded the full story to read it later. (I was afraid this story would disappear.)
I started reading it 2 days ago and man am I in love with that fic. It’s dystopian, great character building. It’s something different, something interesting. Love the world building, the idea for the world.
I’m posting this story here so people can find it if they haven’t already and read it too. Read this fanfiction because in my opinion it’s worth your time.
Work is stressing me out so much lately, and I just had A Day, working late, etc etc, and I come home, sit down, sad and exhausted, and I check my mail, and
Is this actually happening
I am exceedingly pleased to announce my new project: “The Grating Roar”, written by Engazed.
It is an AU (alternate universe) that is more AU than anything I’ve ever done. It is also a *fascinating* story with rich character growth. I also enjoy that the more typically secondary characters also have interesting story arcs and growth.
As you can tell from the AO3 tags on the fic, it is not slash. It is, however, a story of profound love. There are very dark moments, mature themes, but also tender and triumphant notes. I’ve not practically hyperventilated while reading a chapter before (note: not recording, just reading it as the author posted). Every time a chapter was posted, I had to drop everything until it was read.
I’m going to try something different this time. Chapters will release once a week, on the weekend. This is a substantial story, and each chapter has a lot of meat in it. Releasing on a regular schedule hopefully will allow time for people to listen to it before the next chapter is released, without there being too long between them. If you decide to wait until the podfic is complete, just know that it will be Quite Long, and would possibly be intimidating to listen to at that point.
Consider it more a radio serial that you tune into once a week and it’ll be easier to deal with the length.
If you can deal with dark themes, with the reassurance that much of the worst is in the past, come along with me on an incredible ride.
Many thanks to Engazed, for writing this story and being gracious and kind to all commenters and allowing me to record it.

@engazed I have received AFITU, and it is beautiful! I’m tempted to never open it and just let it look pretty on my shelf, LOL.
John’s Journey - The Grating Roar
If you’re following along with @engazed‘s absolutely unparalleled fic “The Grating Roar,” you’ll know John had quite a complicated history before fate brought him to Sherlock. Especially in this most recent chapter (19), many more details have been revealed about his early life, and I have been working on a map of his journey.
Each location is clickable and includes what we know of his hosts as well as the name he had then, and I tried to cite the chapters where the information came from as well as I could.
Just figured I’d share with those of you who may be interested.
