There's a lot of projection involved, but, the general gist of it is that they arguably work for Helen in the most direct way possible, and probably will have to work for her, until either they or Helen die. Miss Pauling could have been twenty at most, when she signed up to work for Helen, and Dell's (yes, Dell Conagher specifically) family is directly tied to all that is happening in the first place. ... Also they're probably the shortest characters of the main cast (Miss Pauling is about Pyro height, I believe), and two short people are deadlier than one.
