I don’t regret for a single moment having lived for pleasure
In case I would have forgotten Oscar Wilde's words. Writing posts took me too much time thus I decided to skip it. Maybe it's a comeback. Working on my engineering thesis. Weekend in Cracow, own flat, escaping promoter, funniest SSIDs, gigs
Now, get back to work, lazy arse.
Engineering Thesis
I changed a little bit look of my room.
I've spent a lot of time in an electronic shop and much more money. Until now it's about $175 and it's going to be much more. But it brings me lot of satisfaction to solder and connect circuits. I'm going to code ATMega8 and BTM-222 to obtain 8 bluetooth remotes. It's a part of my engineering thesis and I need to hurry up.
Since I've started to work on it some funny events took place and this is what my friend said about them:
- You need to launch a blog.
Let's get to the story:
I am really terrible when it gets to the electronics. I learnt it and quickly forgot. This is one of the many many reasons why I wanted to work with electronics for my engineering thesis. Recently I've bought soldering machine, called my friend and asked:
- How to get to the solder insinde the machine?
- HAHAHAHAHHAHAAH
On Monday I went to my promoter to ask him for help. Unfortunately he is responsible for the ERASMUS programme at my faculty so he's full of work right now. Therefore he asked his friend to help me. I caught him at the corridor and shortly described what's my problem. When I asked him whether I can use the soldering machine suddenly he stopped and looked at my with big scared eyes.
- Soldering machine? ..... You may die using it
That was one of my very first conversations with him. Later he helped me a lot. If he hadn't helped me with building a cable I would have crushed it without even noticing. He taught me how to assemble it and gave just one quest: to cut it in order to not have long sloppy snake, but elegant accurate cable. I picked up the scissores and tried to cut the cable. Gum was cut very easily, but the copper wires weren't. I tried few more times, raged and teared them out. That guy gave me the same strange look for the second time.
- Give me the scissores, please. First, you need to put a thumb here. Next pointer finger here. The idea is to push thumb and pull pointer, so the blades approaches at the same time.
After a long work we were to go to the electronic shop in an underground bazaar, but he got a call and needed to go home earlier. He asked me to buy some small parts for their lab. I arrived to one of the very few shops with that kind of stuff and made a very very big order.
- I want a holder for a soldering machine..... that one... no... this one. Wait.... are they different? And some pliers, please.... Ok, one pair. And tweezers! One, or many pairs.... Hm.... One. That's all. WAIT! Forgot those parts for professor. Twelve, please. How much for one? $2? Wow, quite a lot. Wait a second I need to call.... Yes, professor? You said the whole shopping will be $6, but it's $20.
- Maybe it's became more expensive, forget about it for now.
- Ok then, see you tomorrow.
- Wait. Where are you is it shop No 21?
- Hm... no, 19.
- Peter, what part of bazaar are you right now?
- I don't know. Nearer the university... Probably.
- Peter, run! Run as quick as you can. It's the most expensive electronic shop in Warsaw.
- Ok, thanks. Bye! ... Mrs, I give up.
- What, those parts?
- No.. everything.
- And my wasted time.
That's shortly how looks my eletronic work with my engineering thesis.
Meantime I also fixed friend's computer.
More posts tomorrow.
At last I have time and energy for my engineering thesis and for some work. I've spent last 2 days buying stuff like breadboard, wires, capacitors, resistors, LEDs and bluetooth module. You can see the first two on the photos. Later I had received Arduino UNO from a friend and today I saw a letter containing many ATiny's microprocessors. That's the strange stuff I'm going to master, but still I have no idea how it works. I'm going to feel like crazy scientist when I connect all this stuff. This is going to bring me a lot of fun. "The game is on!"
For now I need a little break. This is why I took a train to Zakopane and I'm grateful for Polish trains making a great step into civilisation which is electricity in compartments. This enables me to do anything. And I'm going to continue working at two django projects. My plan for a perfect winter holiday: snowboard, Evolution Algorithms book, django, surprising girlfriend!
