#Typography Tuesday: International Typographical Union Convention
These images are from a Milwaukee Memento of the Forty-sixth Annual Convention I.T.U. (Milwaukee Mss DZ). The convention was held from August 13 to 20 in 1900. The memento is wrapped in sturdy green paper with a brown tie and contains history, biographical information, a program of events, and advertisements.
Above we are showing the cover image of the publication, several advertisements for machinery and other printing services, and a group of portraits of members from Milwaukee Typographical Union No. 23.
Here are some highlights from the convention programme:
Monday Afternoon, August 13th: 2:30- Trolley Ride from Kirby House to the E.P. Allis Works, Pabst Brewery, and thence to Whitefish Bay, where a Whitefish Supper will be served and a highly entertaining time given, returning to the city at about 10:30 o’clock.
Tuesday Afternoon, Aug. 14th: 2:30- Grand Steamboat Ride on Lake Michigan. The boat will leave north of Grand Avenue Bridge promptly on time, returning about 6 o’clock.
Wednesday Evening, Aug. 15th: 7:30- Clam Bake and Fish Supper at Jones Island, by the Photo-Engravers, Electrotypers and Stereotypers.
The International Typographical Union was established in 1852 and dissolved in 1986.
