Dalla regola della L alla preferenza per le donne minute: sono veri i luoghi comuni sugli uomini alti? Ce lo dicono tre atleti della nazionale di pallavolo.
From the L rule to the preference from short women: are they true stereotypes about tall men? Three men from the volley’s national team will tell us.
Who’s really tall or really short knows it: centimeters can make a difference. And about tall men in particular there are a lot of stereotypes not always confirmed.
We talked about it with three “ultimate tall men”, three national athletes: Filippo Lanza, Simone Giannelli and Enrico Cester. All three of them around two meters, all three of them from north-east, that from September 9th will be part of the world championship that will be held in Italy and Bulgaria.
Height is half-beauty
Some researches tell us that the height in a man help him in the relationship field. And in Italian this is also a saying. Giannelli doesn’t really agree: «this is said by someone who wants to find a positive side in being really tall. It depends on what a woman likes». Cester tell us that all his centimeters in some moments were really unconfortable. «My height until middle school was a bit of a problem for me. When I started going out with my friends I felt a bit out of it. Later, it has become a positive thing for me».
Men like short women (and vice-versa)
Also here, the three athletes don’t confirm the stereotypes. For Lanza, height is one of the considered traits into a significant other, also for practical reasons. «It’s important to find a not-too-short significant other, also to not have neck pains» he says laughing. And goes on: «When I was younger I was attracted by short women. Then I was with taller girls and I discovered the positive sides. Now I find more pleasant a relationship with a tall woman ». Giannelli shares the same idea and confesses that his girlfriend i salso quite tall. Cester tells us that he never had a girlfriend taller than 1.80m. «Anyway I’m not really attracted by short women. It would be hard with physical affections: I should squat!».
The L rule
It’s a formula that all of us have heard at least once. Short men, bigger “package” [yeah i’m intending it in the “pervert” way and im having middle school flashbacks for some reasons ugh], tall men, limited sexual resources. The raising of walls, between laughs and embarassment, is immediate. «This rule is absolutely wrong. I can assure you!» Lanza protests. «Then, for heaven’s sake, I’ve never been in a football’s changing room – that are generally shorter – but between us volley players is not true». For Giannelli is even the «biggest rubbish in the world!». And laughing Cester comments: «We are like others. I took a shower everyday with men that were two meters tall and everything was normal. Then there are exceptions, both positive and negative!».
Kind giants
Then in the imaginary there’s this idea of the kind giant: big and tall men in general have a kinder and nature. This is the only stereotype on which the three players are all positive is true. «This is a bit true. I often met them. I’m reminded of Nelli, that plays with us: he’s tall and big, but he’s also the kindest person in the world» Giannelli says. And Cester adds: «Being in contact with really young fans, we become even kinder. Then it also depends on every person’s character ».
Uncoordinated
Moving on the physical side we also encounter the spread idea that tall men have no coordination. While Lanza met a lot of tall guys with problems in coordination, especially in the young teams, Giannelli reminds that «between us that do sport at a professional level it’s difficult to find someone really uncoordinated. Personally I also met people under 1.70m that are without any kind of coordination».
Beside stereotypes, this young men from the national team surely catch your attentions. Check the gallery and decide if for them height is half beauty!
