*henry’s first night at Peggy’s house, while Marie is doing her thing out in the town*
Peggy: knock knock! How are you doing, Henry?
Henry:…fine.
Peggy: everything ok with the room? I can get you a thinner sheet or-
Henry: it’s fine.
Peggy: okay, just checking. You know, this used to be your mom’s room.
Henry: really?
Peggy: yeah. My parents turned it into a guest room when she left. Well, when they kicked her out, I guess. But she grew up in here. Her bed was there, against that wall, by the window. Her desk was there. Her wardrobe was right over there.
Henry: oh.
Peggy: she spent a lot of time in here. So did your dad.
Henry: *eyes kinda go wide in a HUH?! expression*
Peggy: wait- okay- not like- not like that- that came out wrong. Sorry, I’m not really used to talking to teenagers. I meant he was always over doing homework with her and rehearsing for the play and listening to music.
Henry: mm.
Peggy: I bet it’s funny thinking about your mom when she was your age, right? Being in school and all that. Hard to imagine we were all young once, too.
Henry:…
Peggy: *sad sigh* I used to come in here all the time. After she was gone. The decor was changed pretty soon after but for some reason it comforted me. It’s like some part of her was still in the room. Pretty weird, right?
Henry:…
Peggy: I think we Campbells are just sentimental types. Do you think so too?
Henry: … kinda.
Peggy: well, good, all right then. Um. I’ll be in the living room for a little bit if you need anything. I’ll try my best to get you what you need. Okay?
Henry: …thanks.
Peggy: you’re welcome, Henry. I think your mom will be… honestly, I have no idea when she’s coming home. But…if you don’t need anything, I’ll see you tomorrow morning.
Henry: okay.
Peggy: okay. Bye!
