[PHOTOS TAKEN: AUGUST 22ND, 2025 | Image IDs: Two photos of three brown adult keeled treehoppers, and a bunch of tiny, green and black nymphs of the same species, on the underside of a large sunflower leaf /End IDs.]
Entylia carinata, the keeled treehopper! A species I love but have unfortunately had to (gently) remove from this sunflower several times—they're often tended to by ants for the same reason as aphids!
Halictus hesperus - Part of the great Seladonia complex of Halictus. The ones I am familiar with all look like this one from Costa Rica and they can be among the most common bees in an area, as likely this species is in Central America. Collected by Tim McMahon.
Meet the Ichs!
Idiogramma (Tryphoninae)
Diplazon (Diplazontinae)
Amblyjoppa (Ichneumoninae)
Theronia (Pimplinae)
Metopius (Metopiinae)
Opheltes (Ctenopelmatinae)
Echthrus (Cryptinae)
Chriodes (Nesomesochorinae)
Melanodolius (Sisyrostolinae)
There are over 40 subfamilies of Ichneumonids, I couldn't draw them all, but for the record, that Chriodes has seen some things.....😆
Ichneumonid wasps are notoriously difficult to identify, so I thought I'd draw some cartoon ones to make them more fun! :)
BONUS:
Campoplex (Campopleginae)
Therion (Anomaloninae)
Euceros (Eucerotinae)
Odontocolon (Xoridinae)
Coleocentrus (Acaenitinae)
Orthocentrus (Orthocentrinae)
Oxytorus (Oxytorinae)
Banchus (Banchinae)
Hyperacmus (Cylloceriinae)
I'm planning on drawing all 40+ subfamilies in a chart format. This should be fun. Wish me luck!
