Do you consider yourself assertive or turbulent? I couldn't be more turbulent, but I want to develop assertiveness because I think I would feel better: being turbulent feels like unhealthy. I'm an intp female btw, and thank you for the answer.
Hey! I’m assertive. According to me, people around me, and the test.
But there are pros and cons to both sides of the coin here. Most notably, Assertives are more decisive--- which has nothing to do with being right or wrong. Turbulents take their time with decisions because they care a bit more about what others think, or even understanding how they think. It really depends on the personality in mixture with the A and the T.
In solving problems, Assertives may go full speed in the wrong direction and waste time that way while Turbulents will sit on making the first decision quite a bit longer. So it’s not like one or the other is explicitly the right way to go.
But with practice, you can be more assertive or turbulent. It’s important to be able to make decisions quickly just as it is important to be able to view and care about the implications of a decision.
I think it’s more common in females to be turbulent as well--I’m very heavily influenced by my ENTP-A father. But awareness of what you want to be and effort towards making small decisions-- whether it be dinner or a movie that a group will watch, will help you build up your assertiveness. Also, I think it comes on stronger with confidence in yourself and your beliefs. Think, what do you want, and act on it.
If you’re starting from being turbulent and grow into being more assertive, you’ll be a very whole assertive person.
There is a such thing as being too assertive! But I wouldn’t worry about getting there if you’re naturally turbulent. :)
